Justin Timberlake And Taylor Swift Battle Again At 2014 Golden Globes Timberlake-swift-golden-glo

Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift have been seeing a lot of each other in 2013. They've already gone head-to-head on the awards circuit twice this year and will face off once more at the Golden Globes. They split their previous contests, so who will win the rubber match?

Their first battle was at the MTV Video Music Awards last summer where both were nominated for Video of the Year, Timberlake for "Mirrors" and Swift for "I Knew You Were Trouble." Timberlake won that round, and also took home the Video Vanguard Award, but Swift got a consolation prize: she claimed Best Female Video for a second time.

Next came the American Music Awards in November, where they competed for Artist of the Year. The AMAs, like the VMAs, are decided by fans voting online, but this time Swift prevailed. it was her third win, following victories in 2009 and 2011; indeed, she has never lost. But again, both artists had cause to celebrate. Sure Swift won four trophies, but Timberlake took three of his own in the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B categories.

That won't be the case at the Golden Globes, where there can be only one winner. They're both nominated for Best Original Song which they perform as well. Timberlake co-wrote "Please Mr. Kennedy" for "Inside Llewyn Davis" along with T-Bone Burnett, Ed Rush, George Cromarty, and directors Joel and Ethan Coen. Swift co-wrote "Sweeter Than Fiction" for "One Chance" with Fun.'s Jack Antonoff.

Both are helped by how much the Globes love to reward A-list stars. Recent winners include Adele, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger, and Sting. But their competitors are hardly obscure: Coldplay ("Atlas" from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire") and U2 ("Ordinary Love" from "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom"), as well as Tony-winning "Avenue Q" and "Book of Mormon" composer Robert Lopez ("Let It Go" from "Frozen").

Timberlake probably has the advantage here, since it'll give Globes voters the chance not only to have a star grace their stage but also to reward the Coens for their Best Picture-nominated film. "One Chance," meanwhile, probably would have been ignored by Globes voters entirely were it not for Swift's stardom.

So far, our collective predictions by experts, editors and users disagree with me, giving "Let it Go" field-leading 9/10 odds. "Please Mr. Kennedy" ranks second (23/10), while Swift's "Sweeter than Fiction" is fourth (25/1).

Regardless of the result at the Globes, Swift and Timberlake won't have a rematch at the Oscars: "Sweeter than Fiction" is eligible, but "Please Mr. Kennedy" has been disqualified because it samples previous songs.

However, that snub probably won't influence the Hollywood Foreign Press. "A Love that Will Never Grow Old" from "Brokeback Mountain" was disqualified from the Oscars but won at the Globes. In fact, of the Globes' last 10 winning songs only three were even nominated at the Oscars.

So this will be Swift and Timberlake's last battleground in 2013. They managed to avoid each other at the Grammys, where Timberlake has seven bids and Swift has four, but in different categories.

Will one of them win at the Globes, or will Robert Lopez, Coldplay, or U2 snatch it from both of them?
