Zendaya will record four of Aaliyah’s songs for the film, based on the bestseller “Aaliyah: More Than a Woman” by former Time Magazine music editor Christopher Farley.

Known to most by only her first name, Aaliyah Dana Haughton made her debut on “Star Search” at age 10 and was only 22 years old when a plane carrying her and some of her video crew crashed after taking off from a Bahamian runway. The film will depict her journey and rise to fame.

Like the young star she will portray, Zendaya has delved into both music and acting and even landed the runner-up spot on season 16 of “Dancing With the Stars.” After starring on the Disney Channel series “Shake It Up!” Zendaya released her self-titled 2013 debut full-length album. She is also set to star in the upcoming Disney Channel original series “K.C. Undercover” and the Disney Channel original movie “Zapped,” which premieres this summer.

“Aaliyah:Princess of R&B” will be produced by Aaliyah Productions, Inc. with Howard Braunstein and Debra Martin Chase serving as exec producers. Bradley Walsh will direct from Michael Elliot’s script.

The telefilm will be filmed this summer and is slated to premiere in the fall.

After looking at her, I think its a good choice.

wonder who they will get now that she left.

I heard the movie is put on hold because the family wont let them use the music.Lifetime apparently didn't ask the family if they could do an Aaliyah movie.And Also the family wants the film to be done on the movie screens and not on lifetime.

I didn't know it got put on hold, deff. should have asked first.

Alexandra Shipp has been cast as the late R&B singer, according to the film’s executive producer Wendy Williams. The talk show hostconfirmed the news Friday via Twitter.

“I'm excited to exec produce the Aaliyah @lifetimetv movie w/ @DebraMChase,” she wrote. "Prod starts later this month and @AlexShipppp will play Aaliyah.”

In the first pictures of Shipp as Aaliyah, the actress is seen in midriff-baring tops and belly chains, which were the star’s signature looks.

Shipp is best known for her role on Nickelodeon’s “House of Anubis,” and has also appeared on MTV’s “Awkward” and Showtime’s “Ray Donovan.”

She does kind of look like her.

For one thing, the feature film, expected to hit theaters in late 2015, will include favorite tracks recorded by Aaliyah before her death. In addition, there will be some never-before-released music, too.

“We’re in a position where we can do the feature film and we can do the music,” said a source close to production.

Singer B.Simone (pictured) has signed on to portray the “One in a Million” artist. Terrence Howard and Wood Harris were named as possible co-stars for the big-screen film, whose script will be written by author Zane. Most importantly, Aaliyah’s uncle and former manager, Barry Hankerson, is working on the project.

Though the TV movie is expected to air later this year, those connected to the feature film don’t think that will decrease the public’s interest in the larger production.

“I think if we do our due-diligence, people will watch the TV movie and still say, ‘I need to see the feature film,’” the source said.

Can't wait to hear the never before released music.
