A Writers’ Guild of America panel has cleared Jay Leno of charges that he violated the organization’s strike rules by writing Tonight Show monologues during the 2007-08 work stoppage, and, in fact, says the WGA owes the host an apology, Variety reports. The trial committee ruled unanimously in Leno’s favor, saying he has “been done a disservice and (had) his reputation harmed by these proceedings.” A report on the group’s findings noted that Leno was the only late-night host to face charges for going back on the air without writers, even though Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert did so as well.
