Cody Rhodes Discusses His Match With Rey Mysterio At WrestleMania XXVII

Since he debuted his narcissistic gimmick, “Dashing” Cody Rhodes, back on the June 25th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, there is no one that can doubt that Cody Rhodes had finally started to break out on his own as a singles character.

With less than 2 weeks until the WWE WrestleMania XXVII pay-per-view, Cody Rhodes sat down with Tim Baines of Slam Wrestling, to discuss his father Dusty Rhodes, his match with Rey Mysterio at WWE WrestleMania XXVII, if his father inspires him as a professional wrestler, how he got the “Dashing” gimmick and much more.

Regarding his father Dusty Rhodes, Cody noted that he spoke with his father on Wednesday and his father told him that SuperBowl, WrestleMania and other major sporting events are just another game and Cody doesn’t agree with that. Cody said that it is not just another game and that if someone is whispering in your ear that WrestleMania is the biggest event in sports entertainment history, you move faster and you jump higher.

Cody said that with no disrespect to his father, he’s always tried to get his inspiration from other sources and he isn’t helping anyone in the business by being Dusty Rhodes Jr. Cody noted that one of his biggest influences was Shawn Michaels.

Regarding how he got the “Dashing” Cody Rhodes gimmick, Cody said that it has always been a running gag and that his Dad always tells people how good looking Cody is and that Cody has movie-star looks. Cody said that his character done a lot of things that men do every day, including grooming and that a lot of the ideas came from Randy Orton.

Cody went on to discuss his upcoming match against Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania XXVII and said that while he isn’t one for false promises, exaggeration or hyperbole, he really believes that his match against Rey Mysterio has the potential to steal the show. Cody noted that while the card is stacked up against other matches and that it is in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, he feels the crowd will warm to the match.
