1-4-13 Smackdown Ratings Down From Week Before..

The first WWE Smackdown of 2013 on Friday, January 4 scored a 1.80 rating, down from a 1.86 rating the previous week.

Smackdown averaged 2.72 million viewers, slightly up from 2.66 million viewers for the final show of 2012.

On cable TV Friday night, Smackdown ranked #6 in overall viewers behind a Disney movie, "Gold Rush" on Discovery, and ESPN's NBA game. Plus, Smackdown was up against the Cotton Bowl college football game on broadcast TV.

Smackdown ranked #7 in males 18-34 and #6 in males 18-49 on cable TV, which knocked the show out if its usual Top 5 ranking.

Smackdown was down about one-tenth of a rating in the key male demographics compared to last week. Most notable was a 15 percent decline in males 18-34.

Caldwell's Analysis: Unfortunately for Smackdown, the first show of the year felt more like the last show of 2012 since it was taped in 2012 and followed another holiday-themed Raw episode. Smackdown does not have the ability to create its own momentum, so the show needs a strong Raw lead-in, which wasn't the case for this episode.

Hopefully they find some way to raise the numbers.
