When did you go to your first funeral?

I was on my Winter break when I was in 7th grade. My grandma passed away during that time. She passed on 1.3.99 and her funeral was about 5 or six days later. R.I.P., Grandma!

about 2 years ago. My (now ex) boyfriend's grandma died. She was such a cool lady. She would sit and talk to me for hours. i really miss her alot.


going to her funeral really freaked me out. I was calling my own grandma every single day for like 2 weeks cause i was afraid to lose her.

I still dont know how i'm going to handle when my grandma dies. She's the only family I really have that I can talk to about anything and just be completely honest.

March of 2005, my aunt died. Funerals are the worse. I cried for hours, it really hits home that people really do die, I miss her so much, I'm not going to handle something like that soon but we all die eventually. *sigh*

The finality of my Grandma's not actually being around didn't actually hit me until the guy who was there started singing those sad harmonies. I cried so hard at the time - I never cried like that in my entire life... not even at my most depressed moments.

I never got the chance to tell her that I loved her. Her passing has made me appreciate my mom more.I'll need to tell my mom what I never got the chance to tell my Grandma... I'm just not good with softy moments, though...

THIS! I love my family but I feel weird when it comes to sensitive moments like that. I'm weird like that but every so often I'll randomly give my mom a hug and a kiss, she deserves to know that she is loved more often

well i witnessed my brother die in the hospital bed so i didnt go to his funeral. I had already said my goodbyes.

his death hit me that same day he died. i went on a self-destructive path afterwards.

i know it will be hell when my grandma dies.

That reminds me of my closest uncle: when his closest uncle passed away he didn't have it in him to go to the funeral... same with his closest aunt...

I don't speak or see him as often as I used to, but, I know it'll hurt a lot when that time comes bc he was, in a sense, more of a father figure than my sperm donor was to me.

I'm going to be really honest right now, when my father dies I dont know if I will have any emotions. That is a shitty thing to say but its the truth, if he was in my life I doubt I would be the way I turned out. My stepfather, I dont know how I'll feel when he dies because I dont get along with him that much.

I wont have any feelings when either of my parents die. Especially my dad.

both of them treat me like shit.

My first funeral. '98 in Water Valley, MS. My uncle. Tell you the truth wasnt too fond of it. It was too much playin. but us the family processioned out to "Love and Happiness" - Al Green, that was pretty cool.

My first funeral was in 95 when my dad died. I remember being in class and they came and got me when it was time for the funeral....my teacher took me out in the hall and hugged me. It's just so hard to lose someone, I was closest to him because he understood me and I still haven't fully gotten over his death.

This thread is kinda sad. Sorry everone who lost someone close to them.

I have never experienced a death of someone close to me.

Ive only been to one funeral in my life, I was in high school and my friends mother died.

All of us who have posted thus far have something in common, we either have or know someone who has lost someone close to them.

I was a month shy from being 1 Year old. My grandfather passed away then. Next one from a family member i would go to was when i was 8, my grandmother's sister passed away. Her brother 2 years later, so that would be my next one.

2001: my Great Grandmother.
And then in 2003 my aunt passed away. (Cancer)
2005: My Grandfather's brother
2006: My mom's cousin's son
2007: Was a free year thankfully
2008: My Grandfather in April i believe, and his sister in October the same year...both Cancer

I think 2006 & 2004 other family members passed away...but didn't know them or wasn't close to them. They are also mostlikely Cancer related, my mom's family has bad luck with Cancer. Weight out of all the funiral's i've listed......2 was from my dad's side of the family and the rest my mom.

2004: Son of a close family friend was hit by a car and passed away.
Just last year a former class mate of mine passed away in a car accident.

No no, i remember 2007 wasn't free, a neighbor of mine had a motorcycle accident near my house, my little brother saw the whole thing, it's the first time i've seen someone....well Die infront of me. He lost control, slammed into a lamp post and well....wasn't wearing his helmet.

That's a lot dammit.
