Wrestling before the 1990's Empty
PostSubject: Wrestling before the 1990's   Wrestling before the 1990's EmptyFri 25 Dec 2009, 10:54 pm

Ok, Blue has been pestering me to make wrestling topics, but I don't pay much attention to the soap opera that is WWE and TNA. So I don't make topics pertaining to WWE and TNA, at least not that often. So the purpose of this thread is to debate what was/is better. I decided to pick 1985. I'm going to talk 3 cards. AWA, WWF and NWA. We're going to talk about what one was the better one.

SuperClash
September 28, 1985 in Chicago, IL
Comiskey Park drawing 21,000 ($280,000)

AWA Americas Champ Sgt. Slaughter beat Boris Zuhkov (9:34) via DQ.

IWA Champ Mil Mascaras pinned Buddy Roberts (6:57).

Jumbo Tsuruta, Giant Baba, & Genichiro Tenryu beat Harley Race, Bill & Scott Irwin (10:57) when Baba pinned Bill.

Sherri Martel pinned Candi Divine (11:24) to win the AWA Women's Title.

World Class Texas Champ Kerry Von Erich pinned Jimmy Garvin (6:47).

AWA Tag Champs Road Warriors beat Freebirds (Gordy & Hayes) (14:12) via DQ.

NWA Midget Champ Little Tokyo pinned Little Mr. T (6:54).

Jerry Blackwell beat Kamala (9:50) in a "bodyslam" match.

AWA Junior Heavyweight Champ Steve Regal pinned Brad Rheingans (8:19).

Greg Gagne, Scott Hall, & Curt Hennig beat Ray Stevens, Nick Bockwinkel, & Larry Zbyszko (12:20) when Hall pinned Stevens.

NWA World Six Man Tag Champs Krusher Khruschev, Ivan & Nikita Koloff wrestled Crusher, Dick the Bruiser, Baron Von Raschke (9:40) when Ivan pinned Raschke.

NWA World Champ Ric Flair pinned Magnum TA (19:10).

AWA World Champ Rick Martel DCO Stan Hansen (2:30).

WWF WrestleMania - Madison Square Garden; New York, NY 3/1/1985
- Tito Santana defeated The Executioner
- David Sammartino & Brutus Beefcake fought to a double-DQ
- Ricky Steamboat beat Matt Borne
- King Kong Bundy beat SD Jones
- Intercontinental Title: Junkyard Dog beat champion Greg Valentine by DQ
- Tag Team Title: Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff won titles from Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo
- Women's Title: Wendi Richter won title from Lelani Kai
- Hulk Hogan & Mr.T defeated Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff

NWA The Great American Bash 1985 - Charlotte Memorial Stadium; Charlotte, NC 7/6/1985

- Buddy Landell & Ron Bass wrestled to a draw
- National Tag Titles: Ole & Arn Anderson beat Buzz Sawyer & Dick Slater
- Manny Fernandez, Buzz Tyler & Sam Houston beat Billy Graham, Abdullah the Butcher & Konga the Barbarian
- Dog Collar Match: Jimmy Valiant beat Paul Jones
- NWA vs. AWA Tag Titles: NWA Tag Champs Ivan Koloff & Kruscher Kruschev fought AWA Tag Champs The Road Warriors to a double DQ
- US Title: Champ Magnum TA beat Kamala by DQ
- NWA World Title: Champ Ric Flair beat Nikita Koloff
- Cage Match for TV Title & the Services of Baby Doll: Dusty Rhodes beat Tully Blanchard to win the title

So, looking at the three cards which one was better?

But, that's not it. I also want to talk about this.

We all know, that wrestlers in WWE today, are basically athletic actors. Now don't get me wrong, there are a few wrestlers that have some serious "wrestling" skills. But for the most part, acting takes up most of the show. I watch WWE promos today, and I could basically tell you ever thing the guy will say next. Wrestlers back in the old WWF, Example Hulk Hogan, could cut a hell of a promo off the top of there heads. I think when McMahon first took over, he did a great job of balancing "Sports Entertainment" with wrestling. Now, most of the roster is filled with Good looking guys with big arms. T

So, please discuss in here, what of the three cards were better, and also about what I talked about.
