With Hollywood remaking every movie ever released, the news of a “Jaws“ remake was surely not far behind. There have been talks of making a fifth “Jaws” sequel on and off for years but it never saw the light of day (Thank God!). Since “Avatar” in 3D has been the talk of the town for the last few months, every movie has switched gears to either being filmed in 3D or converted to 3D in post-production. According to Cinema Blend, Universal figures that rebooting their timeless classic “Jaws”into 3D would be a big earner and a good way to kick start the series again.
Universal Studios is hoping to attract a younger audience with state of the art special effects, i.e. CGI shark, (Boo!) and bring some life back into the series that has been idle since 1987. This is sure to anger many fans that hold the film very dear to their hearts and do not want to see it ruined just for Universal to cash in on the 3D fad. Fans are already talking over at JawsMovie.com Forums over this topic and I am sure the conversations will get heated quickly.
If you thought that was the worst of it, brace yourselves, it gets worse. There were rumors that Tracy Morgan was once in talks to play the character of Hooper, originally played by Richard Dreyfuss. Although nothing was confirmed and it is uncertain whether or not this is happening, let’s hope that this changes. If Universal was going to remake this classic, personally I would want it to be darker and focus more on the isolation of being out at sea, CGI shark or not.
According to Cinema Blend’s source at Universal, this is only considered a rumor at the moment. We will keep you posted if any new development stirs up on this remake. Let’s just hope that if this 3D remake does happen that we don’t get another “Jaws ‘You mean wetalkin' about some damn shark's mutha?’3D”.
