Last we heard, plans for a follow-up to movie musical "Mamma Mia!" were chuggin' full speed ahead - only without much of the original cast. According to the lovely Amanda Seyfried, the new film would be a prequel fixing on her on-screen mother's younger years - hence no need for Seyfried, or, unless they're planning to send the actress into Dr 90210 pre-shoot, Meryl Streep.

Seems there'll be no need for the producers, a director, and, for that matter, an audience now. Plans for "Mamma Mia! 2" have been scrapped.

Asked by Empire Online for an update on the project, Pierce Brosnan (who wouldn't have been back for the new film anyway) said "I don't think that's happening".

Wouldn't be surprised if the film plan was quashed by the ABBA troupe, who were apparently all for letting "Mamma Mia!" the movie being a one-off.
