Former WWE Superstar Passes Away at the age of 29

I am extremely sad to confirm that Lance McNaught, who was one of Shawn Michaels' first wrestling students and worked for WWE under the ring name Lance Cade, has passed away at the age of only 29 years old. We are still working on further details at this time.

Cade was part of the original class of students trained by Shawn Michaels and Rudy Boy Gonzales at Michaels' Wrestling Academy in San Antonio, Texas, a class that also included Bryan Danielson and Brian Kendrick. He was immediately signed to WWF developmental after a few appearances for FMW in Japan and went through OVW and HWA.

Cade was brought to the main roster in 2003 to form a team with Mark Jindrak (now Lucha Libre USA's Marco Corleone), going as far as to work the Wrestlemania XX card as Jindrak's partner. Cade was eventually sent back to developmental and returned as Trevor Murdoch's partner. That team clicked a little better and eventually had a WWE Tag Team championship run.

Cade's most prominent run in WWE was as a second to Chris Jericho during Jericho's excellent feud against Shawn Michaels. In the midst of that run, however, he was released from the company after an incident on an airplane where Cade took too many painkillers and went into a seizure. The plane had to be diverted in order to save his life and WWE opted to release him.

The company eventually brought Cade back and had him under a contract for about a year, but released him without doing anything. At the time, Cade claimed in an interview with me that the company let him go because he asked for help due to personal issues he was having stemming from addictions to sleeping pills that he began using to deal with pain while getting himself clean. Sources within WWE scoffed at the claim at the time.

Cade worked for independents and Japanese dates after his release.

Sadly, he leaves behind two young daughters.

World Wrestling Entertainment was informed Friday morning by Lance McNaught’s father that he has passed away of apparent heart failure. WWE extends its deepest condolences to the McNaught family. Mr. McNaught was under contract beginning March 2003, performing under the name "Lance Cade," and was released October 2008. He returned to FCW, WWE’s developmental territory, in September 2009, and was released in April 2010.

RIP Lance Cade

Former WWE wrestler Lance Cade (Lance McNaught) reportedly died today at age 29. The news was originally reported at PWInsider.com.

Details on the cause of death are not known at this time. Cade battled prescription drug issues during his career, which reportedly factored into his release from WWE in October 2008 while in the middle of a major program with Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels.

Cade was re-signed to a developmental contract late last year and briefly worked at Florida Championship Wrestling. Cade was then released again in April.

wow that is a shock

This is such sad news, last time test, now another really reallly young wrestler, gone, just like that

Well, there is the cause. Heart failure.

Almost each time I hear about someone who has had a problem with prescription pills and being released, there's no mention of sending them to rehab. The only instance that shoots off the top of my head is Bob Holly's release. When they let him go, he was sent into a rehabilitatilon program.

That's so sad, he was too young

Tis a shame. Lance Cade was a very talented wrestler who could have been big but threw his life away when he downed too many painkillers. After he was resignedby WWE he was told he would never fight at the top of the card again.

He wasted his chance, and could have died from it.

He did go into rehab after his 2008 release but after he was resigned by WWE he asked (it said begged on some sites) WWE to readmit him to rehab. They released him again instead.

RIP Lance Cade, a true talent lost.
