| It is with deep sadness to report that Édouard Wiecz, known in the professional wrestling business as Édouard Carpentier, the oldest surviving former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, passed away on Saturday, aged 84. Carpentier is best known for his time with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), where he was a 1-time NWA Heavyweight Champion and a 1-time NWA Americas Heavyweight Champion. He is also known for his feuds with Killer Kowalski and Lou Thesz, the latter of which caused the AWA to be set up as well as tutoring WWE Hall of Famer, Andre The Giant. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Carpentier family & friends at this saddened time.  | |
