| Subject: Orlando, Florida Wants the Physical WWE HOF to be in their City! Thu 11 Nov 2010, 10:06 pm | |
| When WrestleMania XXIV was held in Orlando, FL, in 2007, there was talk that the city could host a physical WWE Hall of Fame.
Now that conversation has begun again according to a report by the Orlando Business Journal.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and outgoing Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty have both become involved in the push to bring the Hall of Fame to the City Beautiful.
"From WrestleMania XXIV to World Cup, and the NBA All-Star Game to the New Year's Day Capital One Bowl, Orlando continues to support major sports and entertainment," Dyer wrote in a letter.
"Little did we know the 2008 [WrestleMania] event would attract more than 75,000 fans to the Citrus Bowl and almost 50,000 visitors to Orlando. Now, once again, we have the opportunity to forge a partnership between WWE and Orlando for the creation of the WWE Hall of Fame."
There is no timetable set for when this could happen. President and CEO of the Central Florida Sports Commission Sam Stark has stated that this is "conceptual right now" and the group is submitting a request for proposal in the next two or three weeks.
The Hall of Fame has become a big part of WrestleMania weekend every year and having a physical building for it would be huge for the company and the city that hosts it. Remember, Orlando is the first city that approached the WWE about bringing WrestleMania to its city. Prior to that, it was the wrestling company hitting up cities to host the annual extravaganza.
It paid off for Orlando, too, with the WrestleMania festivities bringing in reportedly $50 million to the local economy. You would think that having the Hall of Fame in the city would be a nice boost as well.
