Breaking News: ROH & HDNet Split

The deal between Ring of Honor and HDNet will end after the January ROH tapings in Philadelphia, PA at the ECW Arena. Those tapings will include episodes through April of 2011.

Sources with ROH described the reasoning for the parting of ways as the contract coming to and end. ROH commented, "Ring of Honor Wrestling would like to thank HDNet for the last two years, especially those behind the scenes that made it possible every single TV taping."

People had high expectations for the series, but it wasn't doing great numbers. It should be mentioned that ROH and HDNET have not ended their relationship completely. They are discussing a possible ROH special for 2011 and potential future collaborations beyond that.

The sources with ROH have made it known that they can look for a new TV deal and are already eyeing one currently. By all accounts, the split was a friendly one. After those final tapings on 1/21 and 1/22 in Philadelphia, they will take a break from running events in Philadelphia.

ROH issued the following statement in response to the story posted by PWInsider:

Ring of Honor completed its 2 year TV contract with HDNet. During this time "ROH on HDNet" fans witnessed many great matches, the introduction of the ROH Television Title, and the crowning of new tag champions, among other historical moments. HDNet will air new episodes of ROH until 4/4/11. Please continue to support ROH and watch these new shows on HDNet.

The final ROH on HDNet TV tapings are scheduled for January 21st & 22nd in Philadelphia.

That sucks. Wonder where they'll land.

It didn't get that many rating because NO ONE has the damn channel. I thought finding Waldo's ass hard. He ain't got shit on HD Net.

Other than Fios, are there any other cable providers that have it? Time Warner doesn't, that's for sure.

I have HDNet, it's channel 306 on DirecTV.

-- In regards to ROH finishing up with HDNet, there are some in the company that are happy about the move. Many feel that this will allow the company to find a better outlet with more penetration. On the flip side, some are very worried, remembering what happened at the end of ECW and WCW with talents under contract and no TV outlet.

-- There is no plan to drop the idea of signing talents to contracts since the idea is to find a new outlet. ROH is already in discussions with at least one possible new outlet. There was interest from MAVTV in the past, which most feel would be a lateral movement. They have also had discussions with Versus in the past.

-- HDNet covered the production costs and subsidized the tapings (one figure mentioned was $10,000 per double shot), but the loss of the series won't hurt the company's bottom line. It will change the number of shows ran over the next few months, which will mean less revenue for the talent. Some talent may see their dates cut in half.

-- It is thought that HDNet were covering the salaries of Dave Lagana and Mike Hogwood, and if that was the case, they would likely be gone from the company after their HDNet responsibilities are completed. Lagana may still work with the company, as ROH has brought him in to direct their online PPVs in the past.

-- ROH will continue to run in Philadelphia, but they also know that they need to rehabilitate the market. Comp tickets had become easy to come by because they needed people for the tapings, and the goal was not to make money at those shows, but to make the TV product look good.

Pick up on the CW. I'd watch it on anything.

The only show I know that comes on CW is the Vampire Diaries. I'll be damned if I ever watch it though.

I didn't mention that bc I didn't know it was still on. Yeah... CW isn't one of my most watched networks.

@Silva; maybe the move will do them well. But they've got to find a more available network where they'll have a shot at gaining better ratings.
