Complete Smackdown spoilers 1-14-11

Subject: Complete Smackdown spoilers 1-14-11 Wed 12 Jan 2011, 3:18 am

Haven't seen these posted anywhere yet, I attended the show in Birmingham, AL. here is a quick rundown. Can give details if necessary.

Dark match- Showtime Percy Watson defeated Tyler Reks

Superstars--Chris Masters and JTG defeated Chavo Guerrero and Curt Hawkins. Fun back and forth match, Masters won with a Masterlock on Chavo.

Smackdown opened with Kofi celebrating his title win from last week. Jack Swagger interrupted, which led to-
Kofi Kingston defeating Jack Swagger. Not sure if this was a title match. Fun back and forth match, Kofi won with the SOS, but it appeared the ending was botched when Swagger didn't kick out at the right time.

Next, they filmed the opening and pyro. Del Rio came out and put himself over and talked about winning the Rumble. He was interrupted by R-Truth, who was interrupted by Dashing Cody Rhodes, who was interrupted by Rey Mysterio. A brawl was broken up by Teddy Long, which led to--

Rey Mysterio and Rtruth defeated Cody Rhodes and Alberto Del Rio. Another fun back and forth match, Rey won after a 619 and top rope splash onto Rhodes. Mysterio slipped off the rope performing the splash, and laughed it off afterward.

Trent Barretta beat Drew McIntyre. Drew dominated the match, was looking to Gorilla press Barretta over the top, when he slipped off for a quick roll-up win.

McIntyre attacked Barretta in the back, but stopped when Kelly Kelly walked in. He apologized and told her he had aggression issues, and she told him she didn't like being around people who cause others pain, and told him to grow up.

Wade Barrett vs Big Show went to a no contest. When Big Show had the upper hand, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel stormed the ring to help Wade. Ezekiel Jackson also showed up and joined in on the beat down. They all joined hands and celebrated together.

Beth Phoenix defeated Michelle McCool. McCool controlled most of the match and worked over Beths injured knee. Finish came when Beth went for the Glam Slam and Michelle rolled through for a pin, but Beth rolled back through for the win. Layla and Michelle are both great looking women, and Beth is pretty hot too.

Cutting Edge with special guests Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero. Lots of back and forth and jabs at Vickie. She gets amazing heat, I could barely hear when she talked, and I was front row. She said Dolph was a real man, and showed footage of Edge making out with Alicia Fox the day before he married Vickie. Edge said he also had some footage to share, and showed AJ and Primo walking in on Dolph and Kaitlyn making out 2 months ago. Edge knocked Dolph out of the ring. Vickie slapped him several times, and he looked to spear her, but was pulled from the ring and beat down by Dolph. He and Vickie stood over Edge and made out to close the show. Very good segment.

awesome for trent winning the match. i figured justin & heath would help wade.

Pretty much.

I'm happy for Gabriel though but 4 members is kinda small.

They should still be good and I think I like them more than the other version.

I expect them to have some 4 v 4 Nexus matches.

Maybe elimination at the end of the feud match.

Should be interesting.

Beth vs McCool match didn't take place. The Kofi/Swagger Segment/Match took place in that spot instead.

and most still don't have faith, hence Punk's introduction into the group as management's attempt to save it. That's what happens when you consist it of nothing but rookies, apparently they didn't learn from the Thrillers-it DOESN'T WORK. The nWo (for the most part) had vets running it and knew what they were doing (until it got out of hand eventually)

2x that shit happened to the divas.

They should at least put it on Superstars but nope they totally shit on what could have been a good match.

managements attempt to save it? its not on life support, the group could probably do well with Otunga as its mouthpiece. dont compare this to the Thrillers cause WCW fucked that up

It was, why do you think Punk got put in it? If Nexus was so great and unstoppable and caught on, there would be no need to add a vet in on a team of rooks being that they were 'so talented'.

WCW didn't 'fuck the Thrillers up', they paired a bunch of no-experience rookies together and threw them out on-air at once as to not taking time to focus on them individually in the hopes they would get people to take notice. They got major pushes and despite all of that, they STILL didn't catch on despite later having Nash guide them and get them over. Just because they were young didn't mean they had the full package-Sanders could talk but not wrestle. O'Haire could wrestle but not talk and the rest of them were garbage period. On top of that, the stable was badly-timed; by the time they realized people wanted to see new faces (no matter if they sucked) it was far too late. WCW eventually gave up and just disbanded them near the end of the company.

Nexus is going through something similiar (obviously not as desperate): not everyone in the group can talk and/or exhibited something special about them. Vince was counting on the fact that he could disguise this by having them beat people down all the time (including him) and foolishly only gave one guy most of the mic time would catch on through the nWo similiarity in the shirt and modus operandi. The terrible shirt sales the group got told him it wasn't working and putting them in a nowhere feud with Cena damn near did the group in. Vince needed to do something quick to save it, and enter CM Punk.

And to be fair, it's not entirely the fact most of the team's members are terrible but doing the nWo concept in a G environment doesn't do anyone any favors.

Barrett isnt the "guy from within" because there was no revelation, and with the "outsiders", ppl believed Hall and Nash were really there to invade...something NO ONE thought when the Nexus first showed up. sorry, its gonna take a lot more than that to convince me that the Nexus is a modern day nWo, when its not

wouldnt his revelation be him siding with the "losers" and trying to use blunt force to get the title and make an impact. Instead of taking the title shot that was given to him on a platter...he had a "revelation" which led to him hooking up with the gang of losers from NXT.

how can you say no one thought Nexus was there to invade when their debut...and for many weeks after it...all they did was random attack certain superstars...even the announce team. That doesnt scream invasion to you?

I'm really happy that Barreta got a win, because I love the guy and I hope he has greatness in his future. But, the fact that Kelly wants Drew to change could be him turning Face. In that case, since he's already beat and lost to Trent, maybe he'll turn by trying to get Barreta on a team with him. I'd love that.

I thought the diva match was canceled?

I just saw it on youtube and it was from New Zealand.

Glad it wasn't scrapped since it was a solid match.

Beth and McCool work well together.

I think this was only the 3rd or 4th time they wrestled one on one on tv so it was nice to see again.
