| Subject: EGOTs on deck: Who will win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award Next ? Sun 27 Mar 2011, 6:59 am | |

First of all you may ask, what's an EGOT? Its when a star earns the entertainment industry's awards grand slam, winning the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. It's the ultimate lifetime achievement for any performer.
So far, only 10 stars have reached EGOT status, Whoopi Goldberg and Mel Brooks among them. Let's see who else is close to completing their EGOT. :
Kate Winslet: GO Kate Winslet's Emmy chances are rapidly rising with the release of her HBO miniseries, "Mildred Pierce," and a win would bring her one step closer to prestigious EGOT status.
Winslet, who won the 2009 Oscar for "The Reader," makes her first serious Emmy attempt with the "Mildred Pierce" remake, starring as a Depression-era housewife who leaves her cheating husband and starts her own business. The Emmy buzz leading up to the premiere, paired with the fact that Joan Crawford won an Oscar for the same role, point to another notch on Winslet's awards belt. Of course, the British actress won her Grammy back in 2000 for her spoken-word album for children, "Listen To the Storyteller."
Elton John: GOT What he has: Grammy ("That's What Friends Are For" and five others), Oscar ("The Lion King") and Tony ("Aida"). What he needs: John could be the next true EGOT with his upcoming hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live." Both Justin Timberlake and Betty White took home trophies in recent years for guesting on the show.
Robin Williams: EGO What he has: Emmy ("Carol, Carl, Whoopi and Robin" and "ABC Presents: A Royal Gala", Grammy ("Reality ... what a concept" and four others) and Oscar ("Good Will Hunting"). What he needs:Williams is headed back to Broadway (he had his own one man show "Robin Williams: Live on Broadway" in 2002) as the lead in "Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo" this spring. As the voice of the tiger and narrator of the story, it's hard say whether this is the Tony-winning role he's been waiting for.
Barbra Streisand: EGO What she has: Emmy ("My Name is Barbra" and four others), Grammy ("The Barbra Streisand Album" and seven others) and Oscar ("A Star Is Born" and "Funny Girl"). What she needs: Sure, Babs is an honorary EGOT, but according to awards gurus, noncompetitive prizes don't count. See, Streisand received a special Tony in 1970 after two previous losses for "I Can Get It for You Wholesale" and "Funny Girl." Now the only way to make it legit is to return to the stage.
Cynthia Nixon: EGT What she has: Emmy ("Sex and the City" and "Law and Order: SVU"), Grammy ("An Inconvenient Truth") and Tony ("Rabbit Hole"). What she needs: Nixon could be one step closer to an Oscar nomination with her next movie, "Rampart." The indie police drama, due out later this year, is directed by Oren Moverman, the same guy who helped get Woody Harrelson nominated for "The Messenger" in 2010.
Al Pacino: EOT What he has: Emmy ("Angels in America" and "You Don't Know Jack"), Oscar ("Scent of a Woman") and Tony ("Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?" and "The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel"). What he needs: Who wouldn't want to hear Al Pacino on a spoken-word album? Seriously. If the veteran actor really wants that Grammy, he might want to line up some audio work pronto.
James Earl Jones: EGT What he has: Emmy ("Gabriel's Fire" and "Heat Wave"), Grammy ("Great American Documents") and Tony ("The Great White Hope" and "Fences"). What he needs:Jones got his Academy Award nod in 1971 for the film adaptation of "The Great White Hope" (he won a Tony for the same role in 1969), but Oscar hasn't come calling since. He needs to trade the kiddie movies and TV shows for more dramatic film roles.
Liza Minnelli: EOT What she has: Emmy ("Liza with a 'Z': A Concert for Television"), Oscar ("Cabaret") and Tony ("Flora the Red Menace" and "The Act"). What she needs: Like Barbra Streisand, Minnelli has her honorary EGOT. Funny enough, the actress and singer received the Grammy Legend award in 1990, years before nabbing two competitive nominations. Her most recent, a nod for best traditional pop vocal album for "Liza's at The Palace...!," shows she has a good chance at finally earning her awards grand slam.
Jeremy Irons: EOT What he has: Emmy ("Elizabeth I" and "The Great War and the Shaping of the 20th Century"), Oscar ("Reversal of Fortune") and Tony ("The Real Thing"). What he needs: Irons likes to dabble in music -- remember his "Be Prepared" song on the "Lion King" movie soundtrack -- but it has never been his bread and butter. Ultimately, he will likely have better luck going the spoken-word route.
Geoffrey Rush: EOT What he has: Emmy ("The Life and Death of Peter Sellers"), Oscar ("Shine") and Tony ("Exit the King"). What he needs: He's earned a triple crown in acting, but will he ever get that Grammy? Maybe not. He once joked that the acronym should really be GOTE, and so far getting his GOTE doesn't seem to be on his agenda.
Julie Andrews: EGO What she has: Emmy ("The Julie Andrews Hour" and "Broadway: The American Musical"), Grammy ("Julie Andrews' Collection of Poems, Songs and Lullabies") and Oscar ("Mary Poppins"). What she needs: When it comes to the Tony Awards, Andrews isn't afraid to stir up some controversy. The potential EGOT declined her Tony nomination in 1996 for "Victor/Victoria" after the rest of the production was snubbed. Since that incident, she has lost the use of her singing voice, although she has returned to the stage in London. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So who do you think will join the EGOT club next?
Who do you want to join it next?
And vote and discuss the poll question if you want.

| I like Kate and Cynthia so I hope they get to EGOT status before the retire.
As for the award I'd most like to win it would either be an Oscar or an Emmy.
