"Your true passion should feel like breathing; it’s that natural." – Oprah Winfrey
As the tears finally stopped flowing from Michelle McCool’s eyes in the locker room, the former schoolteacher-turned-Diva became reflective. After all, she had grown up having a love affair with WWE, something she shared with her dad and pap pap, her grandfather. Being a Diva was her dream, and although the road may have started in a seventh-grade classroom where she taught middle schoolers science, the road would ultimately end where she always told her pap pap and dad she’d be someday: in the squared circle.
As McCool’s body hit the canvas in a tough Loser Leaves WWE Match at Extreme Rules with her former best friend Layla, and then an exclamation point move by a debuting Kharma, all those dreams came crashing down – her time in WWE was up. The tears began to flow – a combination of the physical pain she had been enduring for two months and the emotional strain of a dream coming to an abrupt halt.
“My foot has been injured for two months now, broken toe, torn joint capsules, torn MCL. I took a good beating by Layla and Kharma, too. I know I’ll be feeling it tonight, tomorrow and probably the next day,” McCool exclusively told WWE.com. “But I’ll wear it with pride.”
Two Women’s Championships and two Divas Championships to her credit – McCool certainly has much to be prideful about.
McCool’s career began in 2004, thanks to the Diva Search. During her tenure as a teacher, she saw an advertisement on Raw for the competition. Although teaching kids was her love, working her way into WWE and winning the championship was something she was passionate about, and nothing was going to stand in her way.
“I’ve been doing this for six years now. Love me or hate me, I hope the WWE Universe can respect that night in and night out, I’ve given it my all,” McCool said as the tears again began to flow. “This is definitely emotional, and I’m sure it’ll be like that for awhile.”
Pausing for a moment to collect herself, McCool did have one last message for the WWE Universe.
“Thank you for the love and the hate. Thank you for being you and for watching. Hopefully I’ll see you around – not in the ring – but maybe someday.”
And as she packed up her bag for the last time in the Divas locker room, it hit her. She wouldn’t be doing the familiar tonight, heading to another city. She’d be heading someplace much more unfamiliar – home. --------------------------------------------
http://www.diva-dirt.com/2011/05/02/michelle-mccool-confirms-she-has-retired-from-wwe/ Michelle McCool, who lost a Loser Leaves WWE match last night at Extreme Rules, is indeed leaving the company, she confirms via Twitter.
The angle served as a very real swansong from WWE for the first ever Divas Champion, who writes:
Thx for the love guys….I know there will always be rumors, but that was it – real talk! @mslayel ….nothing but luv 4 u! Luv u all…nite!
Word of McCool’s WWE exit first leaked online last week.
Michelle, for all intents and purposes, is now retired. Though there’s something to be said about ‘wrestling retirements’ & I’m sure, like Trish Stratus and Lita, we’ll see her in the odd appearance down the line.
Thoughts: It is hard to imagine a Divas division without Michelle but no doubt the division will continue to grow and develop, especially with Kong incoming. Good luck, Michelle, and most importantly, thank you! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT Several Divas, past and present, paid tribute to outgoing Diva, Michelle McCool, on Twitter today.
Michelle’s LayCool BFF, Layla, toasted her opponent last night by saying: “That was the hardest thing I ever had 2 do @McCoolMichelleL I will always have respect, gratitude & love for U! Our memories will stay with me forever. Flawless love ya.”
Natalya tweeted: “Wishing @McCoolMichelleL happiness- but I hate goodbyes. At Hotel California, you can check out anytime you want but you can never leave!”
Diva legend, Trish Stratus, added: “Wanna wish @McCoolMichelleL all the best-congrats on an amazing career-welcome 2 the other side! Honored we got a chance to work together.”
Torrie Wilson tweeted: “So proud of how far my buddy @McCoolMichelleL has come in the WWE! Girl, Im ready to take a lil girls trip w/u now! AFTER u r rested up!”
And finally, TNA Knockout, Tara tweeted: “This is first WWE pay per view I’ve watched since I left. Just to see @mccoolmichelleL wrestle. I love you siz!!! Thanks for the memories.”
Elsewhere, Jim Ross discussed Michelle and the debuting Kharma on his blog:
Sorry to see Michelle McCool leave WWE. She’s an example of what intelligently approaching ones craft will do for you. Michelle evolved into a skilled performer via hard work. Perhaps I’ll see her when her alma mater, Florida State University, hosts Oklahoma in college football this September. Michelle is a gifted athlete and will be missed.
Enjoyed Kharma’s debut at Extreme Rules. She can potentially be a huge attraction for WWE. She’s different and special. Curious to see where she goes from here. I personally expect great things from her. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So what was your favorite McCool moment?

| Same as Kevin. I always found her incredibly boring and really dislike her. I liked some of her matches but no moments involving her particularly made me enjoy them. Good in the ring she may be but the divas division is a better place without her. Now we've got a psycho Kharma on the loose and hopefully Melina going as well, I'm a happy bunny. | |

| I liked her, she was talented, sure she was over pushed, but so was a lot of women like trish, she is overrated as well and gets praise and merit. Michelle mccool made history, i wasnt a huge huge fan, but give whats due to the devil. I for one will miss her. I hope she is happy and starts a family. that could be apart of why too. As long as she is happy, i wish her nothing but the best. | |

| Well let me be honest, i was a HUGE Michelle fan when she debuted. I really enjoyed her feud with Dawn Marie. Her in ring match with Melina showed how much promise she had as a wrestler.
Once her match vs. Tracy Taylor got leaked (to this day...STILL my favorite Michelle McCool match like ever). I was highly anticipating her redebut. THEN she came back as "The School Teacher"...and it went all down hill, she couldn't handle a simple gimmick, her mic work was just really really really really horrible and i just lost interest in her soo quickly.
I got tired to her by the second time she re-debuted and has been waiting the day to see her walk out that door....and that day has finally come.
Gracias a jesus cristo que porfin....la perra se fue | |
