Bischoff & Hogan Want to Drop TNA Name, Exclusive Details

On last night's edition of The Voice of Wrestling radio show,
special guest Arda Ocal reported that Hulk Hogan has been in strong
favor of TNA dropping the "TNA" part of the company's name.

Ocal explained that during business meetings with sponsors, etc,
Hogan has grown tired of having to explain to people what "TNA" stands
for, and has grown tired of telling them "it does not stand for T*ts and
A*s." On the contrary, he feels "Impact Wrestling" speaks for itself
and is a more direct and to the point name for the product.

The Wrestling Observer is now reporting that both Hogan and Eric
Bischoff are in favor of dropping the TNA name, and have been lobbying
for its discontinued use in the company. The report added that Hogan
feels people simply don't take the name "TNA" seriously in meetings.

Impact Wrestling is direct, but it sounds stupid.

He really can't think of a better reason for changing the name than this? People would take the name more seriously if they took the company itself serious. Most people don't.

This is kind of old news, man. I mean they've got a new logo. But I really don't understand the decision to change the name, for a few reasons...

1. TNA slips off the tongue better, as does "TNA Knockouts". "Impact Knockouts" would sound weird to say.

2. They just made a brand new belt a month or two ago. Now they've got to mold brand new championship belts, to change to logos if nothing else.

3. It's really unnecessary.

4. Most wrestling promotions have a 3-letter acronym. You get better name recognition like that.

5. Impact Wrestling Impact? What will they call the show?

I think you make several good points. Having the three letter acronym makes it easily identifiable and it would be such a waste of cost to change everything.....But they make a good point. It would get very annoying to have to always explain that TNA does not stand for T*ts and A*s.
