USA Network is claiming a Second Quarter 2011 ratings victory over TNT. In a press release, USA says it extended its run as the #1 cable network for 20 consecutive quarters on the strength of prime-time programming including WWE Tough Enough and Raw.
USA cited average prime-time viewership of 3.01 million viewers during the second quarter (April to June) compared to 2.27 million for TNT, which dominated cable TV during NBA Playoffs coverage. USA also claimed victory in household ratings by 0.27 percent. USA acknowledged TNT outrated USA in adults 25-54, adults 18-49, and adults 18-34.
-- Related to WWE programming, USA noted: "WWE Tough Enough is the #2 new reality series of the year to date among total viewers (2.74 million)."
Average viewership cited appears to include DVR viewing, as the ten-week season averaged 2.59 million viewers overall and 2.46 million viewers in the 8:00 p.m. EST timeslot the final nine weeks.
-- Regarding Raw, USA said Raw grew "year to year across the board" among all key demographics, overall viewership, and household ratings.
USA cited the following comparisons: "More total viewers watching cable Mondays from 9:00-11:00 p.m. tuned to USA’s WWE MONDAY NIGHT RAW than anything else in 2Q11. WWE Raw continues to hold the title as the #1 choice for M18-34 in its usual Monday timeslot, beating every network on television, broadcast or cable, except for CBS in M18-49, ABC and CBS in P18-49, P18-34, and total males. WWE Raw delivered more P25-54 than Fox head to head this quarter."
For the second quarter, USA cited average viewership of 5.22 million viewers for Raw. USA appears to have factored in DVR viewing, as the first-run average was 5.01 million viewers.
USA touted Raw's growth in average viewership compared to last year's second quarter. Raw averaged 4.59 million viewers in 2010-Q2, which was affected by TNA Impact going head-to-head on Monday nights. The following is a Second Quarter break down of the last four years.
2008-Q2: Raw averaged 4.73 million viewers 2009-Q2: Raw averaged 5.39 million viewers 2010-Q2: Raw averaged 4.59 million viewers 2011-Q2: Raw averaged 5.01 million viewers --------------------------- Thoughts?
