Welcome to Diva Dirt’s This Week in History, where each week we’ll take a look back at some of the most memorable moments in women’s wrestling from years gone by.

So, join us in taking a trip down memory lane…

October 9th, 2000 | Divas don’t come much tougher than Lita and Jacqueline, so it’s fitting that the two once did battle in a Hardcore match. Lita’s Women’s Championship was on the line, and Jacqueline seemed determined to take it, carting a whole mess of weaponry to the ring with her, including but not limited to: a trash can, a baking sheet and a fire extinguisher. Not one to waste any of the objects at her disposal, Lita earned the win with the combination of a fire extinguisher blast and baking sheet blow to Jackie’s head.

October 10th, 2005 | Following a match between Trish Stratus and Victoria and its beat-down, the world met Mickie James, a self-professed Trish Stratus super-fan who came to her idol’s rescue. She wasted no time creeping Trish out when she formally introduced herself backstage, telling her she wanted to be just like her and capping off her breathless spiel with an overenthusiastic hug. Trish should have realized right from that moment what a strange road she was headed down..

October 14th, 2007 | Bound for Glory 2007 brought us the crowning of the first-ever Knockouts Champion, with a Gauntlet match that included Angelina Love, Awesome Kong, Christy Hemme, Gail Kim, Jacqueline, ODB, Roxxi Laveaux, Shelly Martinez, Traci Brooks and Velvet Sky. Gail Kim was victorious, eliminating Roxxi last to become TNA’s first Knockouts Champion. Gail would later return to the WWE, but would earn no distinction there matching that of being the first to hold TNA’s title. Now that Gail’s more or less a free agent, is another Knockouts Title reign due?

October 12th, 2009 | Poor Jillian. Finally tasting glory, only to have it snatched away.. After defeating Divas Champion Mickie James, an ecstatic Jillian had only moments to celebrate, as she was forced to immediately defend the belt against Melina. Needless to say, Jillian’s luck didn’t extend to the second match and she lost the title, giving Melina her first reign as Divas Champ. It’s a shame that Jillian’s only WWE title reign was so fleeting, but as they say, easy come, easy go..

October 10th, 2010 | Speaking of easy come, easy go.. Tara‘s fourth taste of TNA gold came to her at 2010′s Bound for Glory when she defeated Angelina Love, Madison Rayne and Velvet Sky in a four-way Knockouts Championship match. None were more shocked at her victory than Madison, who was under the impression that Tara would help her win the title, not win it for herself. However, as you may have guessed, the new Champ’s glory didn’t last long..

October 14th, 2010 | ..as a few days later Tara apparently saw the error of her ways, lying down and delivering the Knockouts Title to Madison Rayne on the following Impact. What a loyal friend!

This week had a lot of good stuff.

Well most of it had to do with championships [some good some bad].

I have to go watch some of those matches/segments again since I want to see them again. smile
