Brian De Palma’s 1976 film “Carrie” is one of the creepiest films ever, so after reading this, I have to ask why in the heck Hollywood keeps planning remakes and reboots. Sure, some can be good, but half the time? They should know when to leave well enough alone.
I’m still waiting on a “Ferris Bueller” remake or “Sixteen Candles” announcement to head our way.
Anyway, yes, a “Carrie” remake is happening and “Stop Loss” and “Boys Don’t Cry” director Kimberly Peirce has already been selected as the director for the upcoming reboot.
For those that have lived under a rock, ’76s “Carrie” starred Sissy Spacek, John Travolta and Amy Irving, with Piper Laurie as the repressive mother. The film followed a telekinetic teenager (Spacek) who gets pushed too far at the prom and wreaks havoc on her fellow high school students.
The script has been written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, whose rewrite work helped save Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark on Broadway. Aguirre-Sacasa set out to write a version of Carrie that is more faithful to the Stephen King book, and more grounded than the De Palma film.
