Stephanie McMahon vs. Sable

I thought this was a really tough one actually because neither woman was a good wrestler but they were both amazing characters and revived the divison with their reigns.

Sable was key to the success of the women's division when the title was re-introduced in '98. While Jacqueline and Luna were good wrestlers, Sable's personality and mic. skills made the fans really get behind the storyline and matches. Plus, it helped that at the time Sable was only non-wrestler getting pushed in the division itself; women like Terri and Debra were actually being used in the right way as valets and getting over in that way. So Sable could stand out as an 'underdog' and people could get behind her....this is why I think Kelly Kelly has failed so badly, because she's come from a long list of Ashley's and Candice's and has had no real storylines.

However, I think it took a particular kind of 'character' to revive the women's divison in 2000 and that could have only been done by Stephanie McMahon. Before her reign, the audience had completely lost interest in the women's title and it was just getting fought over by Jacqueline and Ivory on Jakked and Livewire (is that what they were called?). When she won it and Lita came on the scene, people really got behind Lita and wanted her to beat Steph...before that point, no other diva had really been allowed to throw her round like that so the way the feud was drawn out slowly over several months really worked well and Lita's reign started with a lot of excitement around it.

So I voted for Stephanie, just because I think only she could have kickstarted the division the way it did in 2000. Sable was a huge character but I think part of her success was also good timing...


Anyway, sorry for the essay! Got a bit nostalgic thinking about their reigns!
