The Rock Set to Face WWE Champion at WWE's 2013 Royal Rumble PPV

It was announced during Raw 1,000 tonight that whoever is the WWE Champion at the 2013 Royal Rumble will face The Rock one-on-one for the WWE Title that night at the PPV.

Did I miss a stipulation somewhere that the Rock-Cena match at WM was like MITB, that the winner got a title shot whenever he wanted?

No. The night after WrestleMania, The Rock said that he would one day become WWE Champion. He tweeted to say he would be at Raw 1,000 to announce his plan to go after the title.

I dislike the fact that the match is so far away. Why not Survivor Series?

He's filming Fast 6 in August so he probably won't be back until Survivor Series to start building the feud, which I hope and looks like it'll be with Punk. I'm actually gonna try to go to Phoenix for the rumble now but not sure since St Louis is getting Extreme Rules next year in May and I plan on going to that.

I know he announced he was going after the title, but, storyline wise, how does he get the title shot whenever he wants?

Last night he something about WWE decision makers told him that he'd get his shot at the Rumble.

I understand that this title shot is very random and yeah they should have Punk say something about being the better than The Rock, SCSA, Cena etc before Rock said he was getting the title match [to prove that Punk is wrong] but they didn't do it that way.

Even making little sense I am very happy to see the match. If it is Punk v Rock that could be amazing! Damn that could mean Punk would hold onto the belt for another 5+ months! That is basically unheard of today. I mean Punk would have been champion for 14 months [assuming he loses to The Rock].

Punk could lose it and get it back by the rumble

Someone holding a Championship in WWE for that long has only happened once in the 21st Century. So, that's one person who'll want Rock to take it. smile

Cena's 13-14 month title reign and JBL's 9 month title reign are the longest WWE title runs I can think of since 2000.

Batista's 9 month WHT run (from WM 21 to Jan. of 06) is the longest I can think of. Looks like Sheamus will surpass that.

@Silva: I see where you're coming from. The one reason I like why they didn't do that is because it would have made his heel turn much more obvious.
