Beth Phoenix on Last Night’s SmackDown Taping: ‘Highlight of My Career’

Former Divas Champion, Beth Phoenix, tweeted about last night’s SmackDown taping (the show will air Friday), calling it the “highlight of my career”.

Phoenix wrestled her close friend Natalya in the Diva dream match fans have been yearning to see. The icing on the cake? The match took place in Beth’s hometown of Buffalo, New York.

Tweeting about the match, Beth wrote: “#Smackdown taping tonight just may have been the highlight of my career.”

The encounter has never before been seen on WWE television, but with Phoenix rumored to be departing the company next month, perhaps WWE finally pulled the trigger before it was too late?

The match will air on SmackDown this Friday on Syfy.

I was at First Niagara last night and thought I’d give a few details.

First any person who claims to be a Diva fan NEEDS to see the Beth/Nattie match.

Before I get into that, Eve/Layla [taped for Superstars] was good, but unfortunately the crowd wasn’t really into it; some even started doing the”wave” during the match.

I don’t know what to say about the Beth/Natalya match, other than it was probably the best Divas match (equal parts technical wrestling and crowd involvement) that I’ve seen since Trish/Lita at Unforgiven. Natalya had a very loud reaction coming out. Beth’s reaction, if possible, was even louder than at last year’s Night of Champions. Hopefully WWE won’t get heavy handed with the noise-editing. Nattie was clearly the heel in this match and that’s established early on by her actions. I’m trying not to go into too much detail because I’m not wanting to take away from the match, but there were a few near-falls, attempts at both women’s finishers and a awesome move involving the top rope.

Now for the important part, lol. The match itself went over 5 minutes… in fact, with the exception of the main event, it was the longest match taped for SmackDown. That’s not even counting a segment with Eve that happened post match, nor a segment with Beth backstage.

So who is really looking forward to this match?

Does this match happening out of the blue make you think Beth is really leaving or not because for me it seems that way..?

Adding Trish to that match would make it an awesome match too or a straight up Trish/Nattie or Trish/Beth match.

I saw the match and it was ok but no where near as godly as people are making it out to be.

well it was never going to be a PPV quality match on Smackdown with only five minutes but it was still pretty good. not the best match ever but still a great sight to finally see the two of them wrestle each other
