WWE "Social Media Smackdown" on Friday, March 1 scored a 1.96 rating, down from a 2.03 rating the week before.
The gimmick Smackdown averaged 2.82 million viewers, down three percent from 2.89 million viewers.
On cable TV Friday night, Smackdown ranked #5 in overall viewers and #4 in key male demos, trailing the NBA on ESPN. Smackdown also went head-to-head with with re-runs of "Duck Dynasty" on A&E that fared well among adult viewers.
In the week-to-week demos, Smackdown was up compared to last week among younger viewers, which the SMS theme appeared to be geared toward, but Smackdown dipped nearly one-tenth of a rating among older viewers.
Overall, the ratings & viewership decline is inverse to a 50 percent increase in Social Media Activity for Friday's episode.
Caldwell's Analysis: The SMS theme appeared to grab social-media-using younger viewers, but older viewers who just want to sit in front of the TV and watch the show were not moved by this week's Smackdown gimmick. | |
