3-12-13 Update: JBL Fails to Scale 'Mount Death' 2 Die Attempting To Do So! :(

Michael Cole announced on his Twitter account that WWE broadcaster John "JBL" Layfield and his team successfully scaled Mount Aconcagua (aka Mount Death) on Sunday in Argentina.

Cole said the group started its climb 13 days ago and reached the peak at 22,841 feet with wind chills at near sixty degrees below zero.

Cole noted that the group was the first to scale the mountain so far this year. JBL's next challenge is Antarctica in January.

Obviously, JBL has no internet or cell phone service that high up and is unable to provide updates. The last update from JBL was at the base camp and he stated the following: "At base camp now 14,300 feet, 13 miles yesterday in 55mph freezing winds and dust to get here. 9 days from summit! Brutal day! Successful carry to 16,200 yesterday. Tomorrow we leave for 1st camp and then summit push over next week. Will be -20 real temp on summit day. Will be 6-8 hours of climbing daily from now on and summit day could be 15-18 hours. Ready to climb Mt Death! Actual temp at summit day will be -20 at least, wind chill will be -60 to -80."

Yeah that is great he climbed another mountain and this time there were not any problems.

Antarctica will be difficult though!

WWE announcer JBL tweeted the following update about his attempt to climb Argentina's Mount Aconcagua ("Mt. Death"): "Didn't make summit, got caught up in storms that took two lives. Got turned around by weather at 20,000 feet. Try again next year!!"

He also wrote the following about the experience:

"Remarkably, Ian and a couple from Canada (a married couple-both Doctors-who had competed in ironmen races and marathons), Drs. Jason and Carolyn, made the summit in that weather in almost 20 hours of climbing-being much faster than me, I would have been at least 25 hours and maybe as much as 30-which means I would not have made it down. I’ve been around some great athletes and these young guys were as hardy and tough as any I have ever seen, very proud of them-and all great people to be around. The guys who made it talked of stepping close to one of the dead bodies to get to the summit. No one else made it or even came close."

thats sad, hopefully next year they don't have any problems.

Yeah it is really sad that two people actually died.

Sucks he failed although I'm sure he'll try later on.
