| Subject: Elimination Chamber PPV Buys - Preliminary Figure Rreleased For Rock/Punk Re-Match Fri 29 Mar 2013, 12:53 am | |
|
WWE's Elimination Chamber PPV in February drew approximately 210,000 buys, according to WWE's monthly business figures released Thursday.
The approximate buy total is based on WWE confirming an approximate figure of 498,000 buys for January's Royal Rumble PPV via an updated chart.
In the First Quarter, WWE drew approximately 354,000 buys per event for the Rumble and Chamber, which is up from 311,000 buys per event in Q1-2012 and 321,000 buys per event in Q1-2011.
Looking at the Chamber, specifically, last year's event drew a dreadful figure of 178,000 buys. Two years ago, the 2011 Chamber PPV drew 199,000 buys.
Caldwell's Analysis: The 210,000 figure looks good compared to the previous two Chamber PPVs, but it's not as significant of a bump as you would expect for Rock wrestling, especially compared to the 2012 Chamber PPV, which headlined with John Cena vs. Kane in an ambulance match after awkward TV build-up. The total effect of Rock wrestling at the Rumble and Chamber clearly improved First Quarter PPV business, but there was not a huge increase.
Potential reasons why the Chamber did not bump up significantly: there was not significant interest in a Rock-Punk re-match after the Rumble, the quick turnaround from the Rumble to Chamber, people saving their PPV dollars for WrestleMania, more people than usual ordering the Rumble for Rock-Punk so they in-turn did not order the Chamber, and the effect of three-hour Raws on PPVs.
