How Many 'Arrested Development' Stars Will Score 2013 Emmy Bids? Arrested-development-cast-emmys

http://www.goldderby.com/news/4239/arrested-development-netflix-jason-bateman-emmys-tv-entertainment-news.html

The new season of "Arrested Development" starts streaming on Netflix May 26. According to early buzz, each of the 15 new episodes will focus solely on one member of the Bluth clan, with other characters weaving in and out of each other's stories.

Thus, if any member of the cast receives an Emmy nomination, they have a perfect sample to submit to the judges since at least one episode is essentially build around their performance. This kind of "centric" storytelling is what helped propel "Lost" to two Emmy victories for Supporting Drama Actors Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson, both of whom had episodes focusing on their characters' storylines.

The "Arrested Development" stars with the greatest odds at receiving a nomination are Comedy Supporting Actor hopeful Jeffrey Tambor and Comedy Supporting Actress scene-stealer Jessica Walter. Both of the Bluth parents currently come in at third place at Gold Derby for their respective categories. While no performer has ever won an Emmy for this comedy series, Tambor did reap two bids early in the show's run (2004, 2005) for his dual role of twin brothers George and Oscar Bluth, and Walter got recognized once (2005) as boozy, self-absorbed Lucille Bluth.

Comedy Lead Actor contender Jason Bateman has a high chance of reaping an Emmy bid thanks, in part, to this year's relatively weak field of funny leading men. Bateman previously scored a nod for the show's second season in 2005, so we know he's already on Emmy's radar. A successful movie career over the past few years should also help bolster his chances. Gold Derby odds currently place Bateman in fourth place to score a nomination, behind Alec Baldwin ("30 Rock"), Louis C.K. ("Louie") and Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory").

Will Arnett comes in sixth place in our Comedy Supporting Actor poll, behind co-star Tambor and all four "Modern Family" actors (Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell, Ed O'Neill and Jesse Tyler Ferguson). Since "Arrested Development" went off the air, Arnett has had a successful showing at the Emmys, getting nominated four times as Comedy Guest Actor on "30 Rock." Arnett was also the only person from "Arrested Development" to receive a nomination for the show's final season on Fox back in 2006.

Portia de Rossi is just on the cusp of receiving her first Emmy nomination, coming in seventh place in the Comedy Supporting Actress race. Despite a rather successful career in television ("Ally McBeal," "Arrested Development," "Better Off Ted"), de Rossi has never received a major career nomination from any awards show. Her presence has only grown in the past seven years, thanks in part to her marriage to Ellen DeGeneres, so an Emmy nod wouldn't be a shock to anyone.

Failing to place on our list of contenders is the rest of the "Arrested Development" gang: David Cross, Michael Cera, Tony Hale and Alia Shawkat. A nomination for any of these folks would show an enormous level of support for the show and prove just how much the Emmy voters missed the Bluth family.

A slew of rumored guest stars (both new and returning) could also contend in the Comedy Guest Actor and Comedy Guest Actress categories, including Liza Minnelli, Kristen Wiig, Seth Rogen, Conan O'Brien, Andy Richter, Isla Fisher, John Slattery, Carl Weathers, Mae Whitman, Judy Greer, Jeff Garlin, Henry Winkler, Scott Baio and Terry Crews.

Find out how many "Arrested Development" stars will be doing the chicken dance when Emmy nominations are revealed July 18. The 65th Primetime Emmys will air on CBS Sept. 22.
