Mariah Carey + Nicki Minaj Officially Exit 'American Idol'

It’s official: Mariah Carey won’t return for a second season as a judge on American Idol. UPDATE May 30, 8:27 p.m. ET: Nicki Minaj has also confirmed she’s leaving her judge’s chair.

A joint statement from Fox and producers of the singing competition show FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment declared, “Mariah Carey is a true global icon – one of the most accomplished artists on the planet – and we feel extremely fortunate that she was able to bring her wisdom and experience to the American Idol contestants this season. We know she will remain an inspiration to Idol hopefuls for many seasons to come.”

The five-time Grammy-winning singer also announced the news via Twitter and used the opportunity to announce her upcoming world tour with a retweet of a message from her PR firm, PMK-BNC:

UPDATE May 30, 8:27 p.m. ET: Fox, FremantleMedia, and 19 Entertainment had the following statement about Minaj’s departure: “Nicki Minaj is a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion to American Idol and who had a tremendous positive impact on so many contestants this season. Given her extremely busy career, we understand and respect her decision and wish her the best.”

Minaj also tweeted her thanks to the show:

Fox has yet to officially announce any judges for Idol‘s 13th season, but there has been wide speculation that the show will feature an all-alumni panel, possibly with Jennifer Hudson. Randy Jackson — who had been a judge for all 12 seasons — exited the show earlier this month.

American Idol is stale af. No Simon = no show.

Either he comes back [he won't since he has the equally stupid X-Factor] or the show should just end imo..

they are dragging this show on too long but i would love to see an all alumni panel

I heard Jennifer Hudson could be the next judge.I wouldn't mind an alumni Panel.Maybe Throw in Kelly Clarkson and Clay Akin.

The Idea is to have a panel of: Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken....but funny thing is....one of the four actually WON american idol, the others are all lucky rejects.

So basically, they are going to judge someone for a show.....they couldn't win themselves. Seems logical.

At least Clay and Adam were runners up but yeah I see what you mean.

Kelly btw has said she will NOT be apart of the show again while Jennifer Hudson seemingly has the strongest chance to be a judge.

I can't see them having both Clay and Adam but who knows.

Maybe they could get one of the winners who has nothing going on.

I think because Kelly has been part of The Voice, she feels it's a safer bet to stay there, because I believe she was a mentor on The Voice right? If I am not mistaken.
