Steven Spielberg and George Lucas Predict Movie Tickets Will Cost $150 Soon

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas attended a panel at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where the two filmmakers attempted to predict the future of the movie industry, stating that VOD will become the norm, while movie theaters will be rare and cost as much as $150 per ticket.

"There's eventually going to be a big meltdown," said Spielberg. "There's going to be an implosion where three or four of these mega-budgeted movies go crashing into the ground and that's going to change the paradigm again."

Lucas added: "You're going to end up with fewer theaters, bigger theaters with a lot of nice things. Going to the movies will cost 50 bucks or 100 or 150 bucks, like what Broadway costs today, or a football game. It'll be an expensive thing. [The movies] will sit in the theaters for a year, like a Broadway show does. Everything else will be on a small screen. It's almost that way now. 'Lincoln' and 'Red Tails' barely got into theaters."

Lucas went on to make another prediction, stating that brain implants will soon be used for entertainment purposes. He noted that such implants are already being used to control artificial limbs.

"The next step is to be able to control your dreams," said Lucas. "You'll just tap into a different part of your brain. You're just going to put a hat on or plug into the computer and create your own world. We'll be able to do the dream thing 10, 15 years from now."

I disagree with them on it getting that expensive. But I think they are gonna try to find a way to make movies more avaible and raise ticket prices with more new features.

Movies are extremely cheap down here at about $4.50/ticket, so I can't see them going up that high. If they ever did go that high, they'd just be digging their own grave because a movie does not have that spectacle to that a Broadway play or professional football game has.

10 bucks is usual the price for movies over here but there is a cheap movie place that place old movies for like 2 dollars or 5 dollars.

The dollar theater here is .50 to .75 cents, with a $2 upcharge for anything in 3-D.

The theater near my house has IDX (which is supposed to be like IMAX) and MFX (the seats rumble during the movie.) IDX is $2 more and MFX is like $5 more. The most expensive I've had to pay for two, was $17, because a movie was IDX and 3-D, so each ticket was 8.50
