| Subject: Can Louis C.K. Break His Own Record For Most Individual Emmy Nods [7]? Thu 11 Jul 2013, 6:13 pm | |
| http://www.goldderby.com/news/4519/louis-ck-louie-oh-my-god-snl-primetime-emmys-entertainment-tv-news.html The last few years have been good to TV auteurs who take the reins of their productions in front of as well as behind the camera, but Louis C.K. takes the multi-hyphenate trend to new levels. In 2012 he set the record for the most individual nominations in a single year (seven) in writing, directing, producing, editing, and acting categories for his FX series "Louie" as well as his "Live at the Beacon Theater" comedy special. He could break that record again this year. He's eligible to be nominated 10 times at these awards: writing, directing, producing, acting, and editing for "Louie"; writing, directing, producing, and editing for his latest comedy special, "Oh My God"; and guest-acting for his hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live." If "Oh My God" is received as positively as "Beacon Theater," he may be able to count on repeat nominations in those four variety races. And repeat acting, writing, and directing bids for "Louie" seem likely, so he could easily tie his record this year. Whether he breaks it will depend on the remaining three categories. Currently, "Louie" ranks sixth in our overall odds for Best Comedy Series, which puts it in position for its first nomination in that race and would net C.K. a bid as its executive producer. C.K. is currently seventh in the race for Best Comedy Guest Actor for "SNL," placing him just outside of a nomination, though the show has dominated that category of late, winning three times in the last four years. Combine that with C.K.'s increasing industry clout and he could be tough for voters to resist. Best Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series is the final possibility. C.K. submitted the episode "Dad," in which his uncle (F. Murray Abraham) pressures him into a reunion with his absent father. Susan E. Morse also submitted an episode of "Louie" for editing consideration: "Daddy's Girlfriend (Part 2)," in which Louie has a strange and eventful date with book store clerk Parker Posey. Last year's winner of the category, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" (for "Palestinian Chicken") didn't air any new episodes during this Emmy cycle, which means there's at least one potential opening; two episodes apiece of "Modern Family" and "30 Rock" filled last year's remaining slots. But even if Louis C.K. is nominated in all 10 categories, how many can he win? He won two of his seven nominations last year and has three Emmys overall, all for writing. That branch of the TV Academy clearly admires him, so will the others follow suit this time around? | |
