WWE Live house show results September 7, 2013 E. Rutherford, N.J. at the Izod Center Report by Mike Omansky, PWTorch correspondent
Estimated crowd: 5,000 range, which was small compared to historic crowds in the market. The entire upper level was unsold/blocked off. Good show, overall, going two hours and 40 minutes, including intermission.
(1) U.S. champion Dean Ambrose beat Rob Van Dam to retain the U.S. Title. Excellent opener. Strong throughout and fast-paced. Ambrose dominated in the first half of match, Van Dam in second half. For the finish, Van Deam leapt off of top ropes onto Ambrose, who flipped position in mid-air, and hooked RVD's legs coming down. (**1/2)
(2) Sami Zayn & NXT champion Bo Dallas beat The Real Americans when Dallas pinned Jack Swagger. Dallas pinned Antonio with a crocodile clutch. For the finish, Zayn threw Swagger outside of the ring and dove onto him. Back in the ring, Antonio tried to lift Dallas, who flipped over and locked in a clutch for the pin. Decent match; Dallas looked good. (*1/2)
Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero came out. Vickie introduced Big Show, then said she spoke with Triple H, who wanted Show to sit and watch the Orton vs. Bryan main event, but not interfere.
(3) Natayla beat Brie Bella via submission with the Sharpshooter. Adequate. Earlier in the evening, they had fans text whether they wanted a match or a dance-off. The fans voted for a dance-off. They started, but Bella attacked Natalya, and the ref started a match anyway. (1/2*)
A promo aired on the screen with Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel, who talked about his IC Title match later. Customized for the market: Heyman also talked about the stench of New Jersey.
(4) The Shield (Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns) beat The Usos to retain the WWE Tag Titles. Rollins with a running knee and the pin. Solid match as you would expect. (**)
(5) Tyson Kidd pinned Drew McIntyre in a short match. Kidd won with a neckbreaker off the top rope and pin. (Dud)
(6) C.M. Punk pinned Curtis Axel (w/Paul Heyman) in a No DQ match. The match had been advertised on TV each week (in local markets) as a title match, but Heyman announced that he found a clause in the contract. The "clause" stated that because of the No DQ stip, this really wasn’t a title match. Punk came to the ring with a kendo stick and started hammering Axel when the bell rang. Heyman interfered, and as Punk was about to hit him with the stick, a low blow came. Later in the match, Punk finally hit Heyman with the stick, then he pinned Axel with the GTS. Good match; good back and forth with Punk and Axel. (**)
Raw GM Brad Maddox came out with a chair and invited Big Show to sit down and watch the main event. Maddox reminded Show that he could not interfere.
(7) Daniel Bryan beat WWE champion Randy Orton via DQ after interference by The Shield. Very good, almost 25-minute match. The match started out okay, but built nicely and both men worked. Each did their moves (except no RKO). As Bryan finally locked in the Yes! Lock submission, Shield charged out for the DQ. At first, they beat down Bryan three-on-one, but then Big Show had enough and charged the ring. Bryan and Show then cleaned house to close the show. (**1/2)
No return date was announced. | |
