J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have beamed aboard the USS Enterprise to help pen Star Trek 3 for Paramount and Skydance Productions.
The twosome will join Roberto Orci, who co-wrote Star Trek Into Darkness with writing partner Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof. THR reports that Kurtzman will be sitting this next one out.
A release date has yet to be set for Star Trek 3, although it's a safe bet the studios will want to have the next installment out by 2016, in celebration of Star Trek's 50th anniversary.
Paramount and Skydance are still on the lookout for a director to replace J.J. Abrams, who is currently tied up with Star Wars: Episode VII. (He will, however, serve as a producer on the next Trek.) Attack the Block helmer Joe Cornish is the rumored frontrunner to take over the proverbial Captain's chair.
Into Darkness stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are all expected to return for Star Trek 3.
Payne and McKay have already collaborated with Abrams; the duo adapted the graphic novel Boilerplate, which Abrams is producing under his Bad Robot banner. | |
