There's good news and bad news today for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The good news is that the Walt Disney Company has revealed a detailed look at "Treasure Cove," the upcoming Pirates-themed land being built as part of the Shanghai Disneyland Resort, set to open in late 2015. The bad news, however, is that a fifth big screening outing for Captain Jack Sparrow may be farther off than originally thought.

Variety' Marc Graser, tweeting from today's company shareholder and D23 member meeting in Portland, Oregon, reports that Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced that the fifth entry in the hit big screen franchise -- tentatively titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales -- has not yet been given a green light at the studio.

Launched in 2003 with The Curse of the Black Pearl, the high seas franchise has, in every film so far, featured Johnny Depp in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. The most recent adventure, On Stranger Tides, also starred Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane and Sam Claflin and turned out more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are still tentatively attached to direct the fifth film, working from a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson.

Further details on "Pirate's Cove," meanwhile, can be accessed at the official D23 site. You can also click the image below for a larger version of the concept art.
