Colt Cabana Hopes Improv Will Get Him Back To WWE Empty

The following is an article from Luis Arroyave's blog on the Chicago Tribune website:

Local wrestler 'Colt Cabana' hopes Chicago improv will be his ticket back to WWE

“My first ComedySportz show was nerve-wracking -- and I’ve wrestled in front of 20,000 people in Japan,” said Scott Colton shortly before his improv group, KAYFABE, performed its second show ever Wednesday at the ComedySportz Theatre.

Colton, known to wrestling fans as Colt Cabana, or Scotty Goldman, his World Wrestling Entertainment gimmick, is new to the world of improv. The Deerfield native has spent most of his adult life in professional wrestling and didn’t take his first improv class until his two year stint with WWE came to an end last March.

“My wrestling shtick has always been comedy,” Colton said. “So when I moved back to Chicago, I was like ‘This is the home of comedy, I’m almost 30 -- I’d be an idiot not to start trying to get into it.’ Nick Hausman, whose part of KAYFABE, took me under his wing and I did three months of intensive improv training.”

Colton now hosts Wednesday Night’s Main Event at ComedySportz, which features KAYFABE, and has been giving stand-up a try as well. He's done stand-up at iO in Wrigleyville and opened for former WWE champion Mick Foley in Los Angeles and Providence, RI.

Although he enjoys comedy and has hired an agent to help land him acting gigs, Colton still feels his future is in wrestling. He currently wrestles for Ring Of Honor -- which airs on HDNet -- and he’s scheduled to wrestle in Europe in March and Australia in May.

“A lot of guys get released by WWE and vanish,” said Colton, who shared a Wicker Park apartment with former WWE champ CM Punk up until recently. “I’m staying on and wrestling full time on TV and I’m doing comedy.

"I like to think that by doing comedy, it shows I’m an asset to [WWE] in and outside of the ring.”
