Review: The Lovely Bones
Ok now because I read the book and then watched the movies, yes, I could find 101 flaws in this movies in comparison with the book. For the lack of age, really this was a story or about 6/7 years long, it wasn’t the same in the movie.
Now to the movie, I felt the Buckley Character was really left in the dark. He was one of the main focus in the book. He was the only person who had some sort of contact with Susie after hear death. I felt seeing how important his character was in the book, it wasn’t the same when it comes to the movie.
Now the casting was amazing, really they couldn’t have casted a better group of people, well with exception for Susie’s parents, I really pictured them a whole lot older when I read the book. Did they play their characters well? Yes, but they just seemed to young to play the roles of the parents, too me anyways.
Now I’m happy Stan Tucci got nominated for an Oscar, but kinda sucks it was for this role. It wasn’t as a role like he Played in Julie & Julia. But happy it help the film got some attention.
Now the good about this movie, I was amazed to how accurate and so real they made “Susie’s version of heaven” look. It was incredible, it was exactly how I pictured it in the book. I couldn’t believe my eyes to be honest. And then how they her into the story seeing her family live their lives after her death. Amazing. I’ve always felt it was hard to put such a book into a movie and they really pulled it off. Peter Jackson did good there.
Do I recommend this movie? Yes, it was a damn good movie, great first time major roles for they young cast members. Saoirse Ronan didn’t pull off another academy award worthy performance again out of this one, then again how could she after the huge success in Atonement back in 2007, but it shows how much she has grown as an actress and surprisingly played a convincing 14 year old. Why Mark Wahlburg and Rachel Weisz was cast still baffles me but they do put on a great performance.
For me this is a 6.5/10 – Good, but not great.
I also really really really recommend the book, much darker and indept then this movie could ever be.
