| ah the peak of the division. you gotta love it
Royal Rumble - Dawn Marie vs Torrie Wilson: shows how WWE cared about their women's division back then since these two had no title to fight for yet they get a PPV match and promo and all. too bad they didn't deliver as well as No Mercy. Dawn comes down with a black veil over her head. the ref asks Torrie if she's ok to go ahead but Dawn attacks her anyway and slaps her in the face. Torrie mounts her and starts with a few punches and throws her across the ring. Dawn goes for a kick but Torrie reverses into a slingshot. Torrie goes for a suplex but Dawn locks in an arm bar and knees her in the back. after a few exchanges Dawn flapjacks Torrie and the two collide in the corner. Torrie gets a backslide but Dawn kicks out and then a series of arm drags. Dawn gets a clothesline off the middle rope. Torrie kicks her in the gut and lands a swinging neckbreaker for three. too slow and a bit sloppy, the crowd were obviously not impressed. 5/10
WrestleMania XIX - Trish Stratus vs Jazz vs Victoria (Women's title match): Trish makes confetti pop out of the stage in her entrance and King compares Jazz to Mike Tyson. Jazz attacks Victoria while she's doing her title pose and throws her out, dropkicking Trish and locking in a bridging camel clutch. Trish comes back with a Thesz press and all three end up brawling on the outside. Victoria throws Trish back in and lands her rolling leg drop. Jazz gets a jumping leg drop on Trish and the two decide to double team her but turn on each other almost immediately. Victoria gets the advantage with a powerslam and shoulder blocks her in the corner. Trish sneaks up with a bridging roll up but Victoria kicks out. Jazz lands a running backbreaker and gets into a fight with Victoria but Trish knocks their heads together. Victoria holds Trish back so Jazz can kick her but she gets Victoria instead. Trish gets a victory roll and chick kick and Stratusphere on Victoria. Jazz gains control with a half crab, turning it into the STF but Steven Richards breaks the hold. Trish rolls Victoria up and accidentally pulls her pants down. Jazz locks Trish in her bitch clamp but gets superkicked by Victoria who misses a moonsault. Jazz gets thrown out, Steven Richards brings a chair in and misses Trish and hits himself instead allowing her to hit him with the Stratusfaction. Victoria uses the distraction to her advantage and goes for the Widow's Peak but Trish wriggles out of it and blasts her with a chick kick to win her fourth Women's title. fantastic match and one of the best women's matches in history. 9/10
Backlash - Jazz vs Trish Stratus* (Women's title match): wow a rematch from last year although Trish is champion now. Jazz has Teddy Long with her and she says "the bitch is back and tonight the bitch is black". they start off with a staredown before Trish gets a belly to back suplex and an Oklahoma roll. Jazz nails a backbreaker but Trish comes back with a clothesline. Jazz locks in the bitch clamp but Trish counters a sidewalk slam into a powerslam. Jazz throws her down on the mat and hits a running hip drop. Jazz removes the turnbuckle pad and the ref is distracted so he can't count when Trish rolls Jazz up. they exchange punches before Trish goes for the Stratusphere but Jazz counters into a Boston crab. Trish reverses it and locks in an STF of all things. Jazz gets to the ropes and Trish pulls her off them before hitting a chick kick. Jazz gets a high dropkick but Trish lands the Stratusfaction. Teddy Long throws his shoe at Trish to break the pin. Trish goes for a sunset flip at the ropes but Jazz sits on her and grabs the ropes for leverage to win her second title. needed to be longer. 6/10
Judgement Day - Trish Stratus vs Jacqueline vs Jazz* vs Victoria (Women's title match): non stop action from the get go as the heel whip Jackie and Trish into each other and they spin around to clothesline their respective heels. Victoria pulls Trish out of the ring and whips her into the post. inside Jackie suplexes Jazz but Victoria breaks the pin and delivers the Spider's Web. Jazz locks in her bitch clamp on Victoria and then on Jackie. Trish comes back in with a running clothesline. Jazz locks her in the STF while Jackie locks Victoria in a half crab. Trish gets to the ropes so Jazz breaks the other hold and locks Victoria in the STF but Trish breaks it up. Jazz gets a jawbreaker and Trish delivers two Stratuspheres on Jazz and Victoria. she goes for the Stratusfaction but Victoria throws her over the top rope. Jackie plants Victoria with a Northern Lights suplex but Jazz splashes them to break the hold and DDTs Jackie to pin her. great match. 7/10
Vengeance - Sable vs Stephanie McMahon (No Count out catfight): very weird to see crowds cheering for Stephanie but come on you gotta love Sable finally getting her ass handed to her. Steph attacks Sable on the ramp and gives her a wedgie as she drags her into the ring. Sable high tails it through the crowd and Steph chases after her, throwing her right over the barrier. a clothesline from Stephanie but Sable comes back with a dropkick as Steph is entering the ring. Sable starts kicking Steph in the corner and an alley oop comes from the ropes. she kicks her in the back and grinds over her even taunting the ref. the two exchange slaps before Stephanie spears Sable and a hairgrab takeover sends her flying. on the outside Steph grabs a chair but the ref takes it off her. Sable goes for a kick but Stephanie slaps her. she gets a running neck swing and chokes Sable at the ropes. she rips Sable's top open so the ref gives her his to cover up. while he's being distracted A-Train comes in and plants Stephanie so Sable can pin her easily. nice catfight and pretty entertaining. 6/10
Unforgiven - Lita & Trish Stratus vs Molly Holly & Gail Kim: what's better than Lita and Trish in the main event? why them teaming up of course. Lita's got great legs tonight and i miss Gail Kim's old entrance music. Lita and Trish start off hitting poetry in motion on both Molly and Gail in the same corner and following up with a double baseball slide dropkick when both ladies run for cover. Lita and Gail start off with a couple of arm drags before Trish tags in and lands a diving Thesz press off the top rope. Molly causes Trish to fall out of the ring and she and Gail drive her back into the apron. in the ring Molly locks in a dragon sleeper and tags Gail in who locks a dragon sleeper of her own. Trish uses the ropes for leverage to counter the move but can't tag Lita as Molly drops her on the apron. Molly and Gail do a nice double backbreaker, Lita makes a blind tag but the ref doesn't see it so Molly and Gail use the distraction to lock in a camel clutch-Boston crab combo for a few seconds. Lita is visibly bleeding from the mouth as Molly hits Trish with a backbreaker. Gail tags in and they go to double team Trish but she counters with a snapmare on Gail and headscissors on Molly at the same time. Gail clotheslines Trish, body slams her but misses a diving attack from the top rope and Lita makes the hot tag. Lita is on fire with her headscissor takedown, judo flip and a Lita bomb. Molly goes up top for the Molly Go Round but Trish lands the Stratusphere. Lita gets a twist of fate and finishes the match with a moonsault. fantastic high energy match. 8/10
Survivor Series - Molly Holly* vs Lita (Women's title match): believe it or not only Molly's third title defence since she won the belt back in August. i wish they'd had a Survivor Series diva match back then, they probably could have had a 4 on 4. Lita starts off with a forward leg sweep and judo flip and Molly ducks for cover. Lita smashes her face off the apron and then suplexes her. Molly counters a headscissors attempt to send Lita over the top rope. Molly drives Lita's back into the barrier and back in the ring Molly hits a swinging neckbreaker. she locks in a sleeper hold and dragon sleeper and delivers her handspring elbow smash before choking Lita in the corner. Lita flips herself up top and lands a diving crossbody. in the corner she delivers the 10 punch combo but Molly comes back with a sidewalk slam. Lita plants her with a Lita bomb for two. she gets a Russian leg sweep but misses a moonsault. Molly lands the Molly Go Round but Lita kicks out. she takes the pad off the turnbuckle and drives Lita's face into it to get the pin. good match and nice decision to let Molly retain her title here. 7/10
Armageddon - Chris Jericho & Christian vs Trish Stratus & Lita (Battle of the Sexes match): Jericho seems reluctant and tries to talk to Trish but she slaps him and starts pounding away. he spanks her and tells her to calm down. she gets a headscissor takedown and dropkick. Christian tags in and Lita comes in and headbutts him. she gets him to chase her around the ring and dropkicks him as he gets inside. Christian body slams Lita and Jericho tags in and stands on her hair and slamming her. he goes for a powerbomb but Lita reverses into a hurricanrana pin for 2. Christian goes sailing outside and Lita crotches Jericho on the top. Trish goes for the Stratusphere but Jericho blocks it. Trish ducks a Christian clothesline with the Ma-Trish and he knocks Jericho off the apron. Christian clotheslines Trish but walks into a Litacanrana. Jericho pulls Lita outside and throws her into the guard rail. he tries to talk to Trish but Christian sneaks behind and rolls her up for 3. quite enjoyable actually and one of the better intergender matches i've ever seen. 7/10
Molly Holly* vs Ivory (Women's title match): ok this was just randomly added to the card with no build up and Ivory hadn't even been on TV for weeks. but she is looking mighty fine in a snakeskin catsuit, love her music. Ivory starts off with a snapmare on Molly and follows up with a dropkick. Ivory goes up top and lands a diving crossbody for 2. she sends Molly to the outside and lands a rolling senton off the apron. Molly gets a low dropkick to knock Ivory off the apron. she gets a Northern Lights suplex and locks in and arm wrench. she drops Ivory onto the ropes and gets a snap suplex before locking in a front facelock. in the corner she gets in a handspring elbow smash and removes the top turnbuckle pad. Ivory blocks an attempt to smash her face into it and rolls Molly up but Molly counters it into one of her own to retain. a few nice moves but a few extra minutes could have made it better or maybe if the announcers had actually called it rather than discussing whether or not Molly is sexually frustrated. 6/10 | |
