| personally i felt this was a good year for wwe
WrestleMania 24 – Melina & Beth Phoenix vs Maria & Ashley (Playboy Bunnymania Lumberjill match): Snoop Dogg is the special guest ring announcer and our Lumberjills are Mickie James, Maryse, Kelly Kelly, Layla, Victoria, Jillian Hall, Cherry, Michelle McCool and Eve Torres. Ashley and Maria come out to Maria’s theme thank God and Melina and Beth bring Santino with them. Ashley starts off with a hurricanrana on Beth and Maria tags in with both hip tossing Beth. Melina gets tossed out into the Lumberjills and back in the ring Maria hits her with the Bronco buster, following up with an Alley-Oop. Ashley tags in and gets a headscissor takedown and a cool looking facebuster from the turnbuckle. Melina and Beth double team Ashley and she gets tossed into the heel Lumberjills. Back inside Melina slingshots Ashley into a bear hug by Beth. Beth puts Melina on her shoulders and does an impromptu moonsault with her onto Ashley. Melina chokes her at the ropes but they both tag their partners. The lights go out briefly but they get a spotlight on just in time to see Maria hit Beth with Seeing Stars. She lands a diving crossbody for two. Beth sets her up for the Glam Slam but Maria reverses into a standing bulldog. Melina breaks the pin and Beth accidentally spears her off the apron. Ashley dives into the Lumberjills as Maria lands a bulldog off the top rope. Santino breaks the pin and King gets up to clock him with a “Hall of Fame right hand”. The distraction is enough for Beth to plant Maria with the Fisherman’s suplex for 3. Santino mocks Maria and Snoop Dogg clotheslines him and snogs Maria. Add in Maria and Beth plus a whole year’s experience and Melina and Ashley are forgiven. Pretty good. 6/10
Backlash – Beth Phoenix, Melina, Victoria, Natalya, Layla & Jillian vs Mickie James, Michelle McCool, Ashley, Maria, Kelly Kelly & Cherry (12 diva tag match): Mickie is wearing her SvR 10 costume and once again has only one other wrestler on her team with Beth only having one model. McCool and Beth start off with Beth reversing a suplex attempt and McCool using kicks and uppercuts. Beth gets a back breaker and Melina tags in. She lands a running bridging camel clutch and a sunset flip but gets dropkicked by McCool. Mickie tags in and gets her hurricanrana and a clothesline. Natalya tags in and starts hammering away but Mickie gets a neckbreaker for one. Natalya knocks Cherry off the apron and tags Victoria in. Victoria body slams Mickie but misses the gyrating moonsault. Mickie gets an enziguri and Cherry knocks Natalya down. A brawl breaks out with all the other divas at ringside. Victoria tags Jillian and Mickie tags Ashley who gets a hurricanrana. Beth kicks her in the back and tags in. Snapmare into a sleeper hold by Beth which Ashley gets out of. Beth puts Ashley in a chicken wing and Layla runs in and Ashley kicks her. Beth knocks Mickie who comes in and plants her with the jumping DDT. Victoria delivers the Widow’s Peak to Mickie and gets a big boot from McCool. Melina gets the Primal Scream on McCool and gets dropkicked by Kelly who gets planted with a sitout facebuster from Jillian. Cherry gets a running facecrusher on Jillian and is then suplexed by Natalya who gets a bulldog from Maria. Layla hits Maria with that spinning kick and is speared by Ashley. Beth lays her out with a Fisherman’s suplex to get the win. Anyone with epilepsy should not watch this as they will get dizzy. 6/10
Judgment Day – Mickie James* vs Melina vs Beth Phoenix (Women’s title match): Lillian waits until all three are in the ring before announcing them. Beth holds the ropes open for Melina, ordering her out of the ring but Melina kicks her. Mickie gets a bridging roll up and snapmare on Melina. Beth pulls her out and clotheslines her. Melina punches her but Beth raises her up in a chokehold. Beth sets up the Glam Slam but Mickie rolls Beth up for one. Mickie goes for the DDT but instead gets a headscissors on Melina. She then locks in a sleeper hold on Beth and Melina gets a running neckbreaker. Mickie goes up top but Melina crotches her and ends up getting an electric chair drop from Beth. Mickie lands a diving body press on Beth for two. Mickie reverses a Beth rollup into a dropkick. Mickie gets spread out on the top rope but Beth picks both her and Melina up for a double hanging backbreaker. Beth holds Mickie in a chokehold but Melina gets a neckbreaker from behind. Mickie plants Melina with the DDT to get the win. Fantastic match but way too short. 7/10
One Night Stand – Melina vs Beth Phoenix (I Quit match): What’s this? A women’s PPV match that doesn’t involve the title? One of Melina’s photographers stumbles during her entrance and the two have a bit of a staredown before Melina shoves Beth and locks in a front facelock that brings Beth to her knees. Beth gets a backbreaker and then locks in an abdominal stretch but Melina won’t quit. Beth goes at her in the corner and ends up getting planted with the Extreme Makeover. Melina locks in the California Dream but Beth rolls them out of the ring to break the hold. Beth stomps Melina in the corner and chokes her at the ropes. She locks in the overhead backbreaker but Melina still won’t quit so she slams her down. Beth locks in a crossface before dropping her on the mat twice. Beth locks a sleeper hold in but Melina fights back, doing a strange roll that knocks Beth into the corner, then kicking her into the post. Melina wraps Beth’s arm around the rope and lands and STO. Melina does her headscissors into an arm bar but Beth refuses to quit. A “we want Chyna” chant starts but Melina locks in a cross arm breaker. Beth lifts her up and lands a running powerbomb. Beth plants her with the Glam Slam before locking in a Mexican surfboard. Melina refuses to quit so Beth practically bends her in half before Melina finally gives up. Fantastic match and the best of the year for the divas. 8/10
Night of Champions – Mickie James vs Katie Lea Burchill (Women’s title match): Katie’s only title match on PPV and she brings Paul Burchill down to the ring with her which prompts a “you’re a pirate” chant from the crowd. Katie goes for a few quick pins to start off and Mickie gets a belly to belly suplex and a bridging roll up. Katie blows a kiss to Paul and Mickie gets a monkey flip and clothesline. She goes up top but Katie rolls out of the ring. Back inside Mickie gets a snapmare and running dropkick. Katie starts to work on Mickie’s arm with a suplex and arm bar. She stomps on the arm and then wraps it around the ropes. Katie whips Mickie arm first into the turnbuckle and then locks in an arm bar. Mickie fights back with a Thesz press but Katie plants Mickie with an arm breaker. Mickie gets her hurricanrana on Katie and clotheslines her. Katie misses a kick and Mickie gets a snapmare for two. Mickie goes for the DDT but Katie locks in another arm bar. Mickie rolls around trying to get to the ropes but reverses into an arm drag. Katie shoves Mickie into the corner and goes for a suplex but Mickie gets the DDT to pick up the win. Methinks Katie’s push should have continued. Very good match. 7/10
Great American Bash – Michelle McCool vs Natalya (Match to crown the first Divas’ Champion): I love this set for The Bash and this first match actually gave this title prestige as McCool remains the only good Divas’ champion. They lock up and grapple on the mat. McCool counters a waist lock and dropkicks Natalya. She gets a European uppercut and rolls over Natalya’s back, kicking her in the face. Natalya bounces her off the ropes and punches away on the canvas. She gets a knee lift and locks in a Mexican Stretch which McCool manages to escape from. She attempts to go for the Brazilian heel hook but Natalya gets away and locks McCool in a bow and arrow around the ring post. Back in the ring Natalya knocks McCool to the mat and takes forever to hook her leg for the Sharpshooter but gets it anyway. McCool gets to the ropes so Natalya attempts it again but McCool locks in the Brazilian heel hook. Unable to get to the ropes Natalya taps out and McCool has made history, she is the first Divas’ Champion. Eve and Cherry come down to celebrate with her. Great match but way too short, I could have watched a whole five minutes more. 6/10
SummerSlam – Mickie James* & Kofi Kingston* vs Glamarella (Winner Take All match for the Women’s and Intercontinental titles): You gotta love intergender tag matches, especially when the women can actually wrestle. Mickie and Beth start off with Mickie trying a jumping snapmare but Beth counters. Beth reverses a waist lock but Mickie cartwheels through an Irish whip into a low dropkick to the knee. Beth gets a backbreaker and tags Santino in. He gets monkey flipped by Mickie and Kofi tags in and body blocks Santino. He shoulder blocks him in the corner and Santino runs for cover. Mickie kicks Beth off the apron and a hilarious moment comes when Kofi goes to vault over the top rope and Santino jumps into Beth’s arms. Beth distracts the ref while Santino uses a neckbreaker on the ropes. Santino locks a sleeper hold and tags Beth in. She goes to work on Kofi before tagging Santino back in. He gets a snap suplex and locks in a camel clutch. Kofi snapmares him out and tags Mickie in and Santino tags Beth. Mickie clotheslines Beth and dropkicks Santino off the apron. Mickie lands her hurricanrana and goes up top to land a Thesz press but Santino breaks the pin. Kofi gets sent to the outside and Mickie plants Santino with her DDT. Beth uses the distraction to lay Mickie out with the Glam Slam to win both the titles. Great match. 7/10
Unforgiven – Michelle McCool* vs Maryse (Divas’ title match): So nice for McCool that she gets to hold the belt for a whole two months without defending. Maryse locks in an arm bar while McCool gets a heel trip. She gets a side Russian leg sweep for two before locking in an arm lock. Maryse reverses it into one of her own. McCool does a backflip off the turnbuckle to get the advantage. The fight spills outside where Maryse throws McCool over the crowd barrier. McCool lands a diving clothesline off the top. Back in the ring she gets a European uppercut. Maryse starts working on McCool’s knee with a knee lift and leg lock. She locks in a unique looking submission hold and then locks her up at the ropes. Maryse locks in a leg twist but McCool fights back with her Brazilian heel hook but Maryse gets to the ropes. Maryse chokes her at the ropes but McCool big boots her. Maryse gets a sunset flip reversed into a dropkick. McCool’s knee buckles as she goes for a suplex so she superkicks Maryse instead. She lands a jack hammer suplex for 3. This crowd was horrible. The divas put on a good match but it is hilarious that Maryse gets a “you can’t wrestle” chant in one of the rare matches in which she does wrestle. There was even a “TNA” chant. 6/10
No Mercy – Candice Michelle vs Beth Phoenix* (Women’s title match): Candice! I’ve missed you. Too bad she couldn’t change the damn entrance music. Candice starts off with a low dropkick and then a version of the Fame Asser. She follows up with a forward leg sweep and a nice roll up for two. She gets an enziguri and Beth rams Candice’s back into the corner and starts working on Candice’s shoulder. Snapmare by Beth and she locks in a short arm scissors. A “Candice” chant starts as she tries to fight out of it but Beth keeps the hold locked in. Candice rolls through and gets a jawbreaker and clotheslines. She dropkicks Beth and hits her with a spinning heel kick. Beth lands an arm breaker and goes up top (?) and Candice crotches her. She dropkicks Beth’s head and goes for the pin but Santino pulls Beth out of the ring. Candice dropkicks him but Beth clocks her. Back in the ring Candice goes for the Candy Wrapper but Beth reverses into the Glam Slam for the win. Decent match but their Unforgiven match was better. 6/10
Survivor Series – Team Raw (Beth Phoenix, Kelly Kelly, Jillian Hall, Mickie James, Candice Michelle) vs Team Smackdown (Michelle McCool, Maryse, Maria, Victoria, Natalya): First divas Survivor Series match since 1995 and I think close to the same length as it. Personally I would have swapped Jillian for Katie Lea and Kelly for Melina since she returned the very next night. The two captains start off with a test of strength which Beth is winning until McCool gets a flying headscissors. McCool dropkicks Beth who shoves her back. Maryse tags herself in and the Smackdown team have trouble communicating as McCool and Maryse get into a catfight which prompts a “let them fight” chant from the Raw team. Maria tags in and Beth lifts her up. Maria counters with a headscissors and Kelly tags in to get a slingshot sunset flip. Some weak drop toe holds follow and Kelly gets a backslide. Victoria tags herself in and the WWE’s degradation of her continues: Kelly eliminates her with a hurricanrana. Maryse comes back in and gets hurricanrana’d by Kelly but plants her with a backbreaker to eliminate her. Mickie jumps in with a Thesz press but McCool tags back in. Some nice exchanges follow as McCool bridges out of a pin, Mickie gets a northern lights suplex and McCool gets an Oklahoma Roll. She reverses a crucifix pin attempt into a Russian leg sweep. Maria tries to break up a pin on McCool but splashes her by accident. While McCool berates her Mickie plants her with a DDT and the captain is eliminated. Beth and Mickie have some discussion and Maryse rolls Mickie up for elimination. Candice and Natalya tag in with Nattie getting a belly to back suplex. Candice gets a nice roll up but Natalya locks in the Sharpshooter to get a huge pop from the crowd. Jillian breaks the hold and Candice spears Natalya to eliminate her. Jillian tags in against Maria and plants her with a Samoan drop for two. She gets a handspring elbow but Maria gets a Victory Roll to make Velvet McIntyre proud and Jillian is out. Candice quickly dispatches Maria with a northern lights suplex. Maryse knocks Beth off the apron and locks in a modified Figure 4 Leglock to make Candice tap out, leaving her alone with the Glamazon. Maryse slaps her and gets a heel kick for two. Maryse goes for a crossbody but Beth catches her. Maryse counters and rolls Beth up. She goes for the French Kiss but Beth reverses into the Glam Slam (which Maryse sells awfully) for the win. If McCool hadn’t been eliminated before Natalaya I would have said the Smackdown divas got eliminated in decreasing order of wrestling ability. 5/10
Armageddon – Mickie James, Maria, Kelly Kelly & Michelle McCool vs Jillian Hall, Maryse, Victoria & Natalya (8 diva Santa’s Little Helper tag match): The face divas are wearing red and McCool has a strong resemblance to Torrie Wilson here. Maria appears to have borrowed Melina’s bedroom slippers to wrestle in. The heel divas are wearing green and Natalya’s outfit is truly awful. Mickie and Maryse start off and Mickie takes control with an arm drag and hammerlock. Maryse flips her hair and tags Natalya who slaps Mickie. Mickie mounts her with a Thesz press and tags Kelly who gets a slingshot sunset flip. Kelly backflips into a clothesline and Natalya gets a belly to belly suplex. Natalya gets an arm wrench but Kelly cartwheels out of it. Victoria chokes Kelly in the corner but she fights them off. Natalya tags Jillian who throws Kelly across the ring. Jillian screams into her ears and body slams her. She goes for a handspring elbow drop but Kelly gets her knees up. Maria tags in and gets a running bulldog but Victoria breaks the pin. A fight breaks out at ringside and Maria gets a nice headscissors on Jillian. McCool tags in and plants Jillian with the Faithbreaker. The Kelly/Natalya action was pretty good, they should have more matches together. Maria also looked ok here as well. I wish Victoria had actually gotten ring time. 6/10

| 2008 was pretty good imo. I mean a ton of PPv's had diva matches and for the most part they were good matches. A lot of tag team matches but they are better than no match at all. I really like the Extreme Rulez match with Beth and Melina. It was one of the best diva matches in a long time and probaby the best singles match at a PPV that was not for a belt since that rarely ahppens anyways.. I really liked the Survivor Series match since eliminations are a lot better than one fall to a finish. Overall I liked 08! | |

| i liked Bunnymania, that was definitely Ashley's best match
the Survivor Series match could have been a lot better if they gave it more time since Kelly's, Mickie's and Maria's eliminations were extremely sloppy. the Candice/Natalya interaction was pretty good and they should have had more ring time. Victoria should have gotten a chance to wrestle as well
