Randy Orton Injured Prior to PPV
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Randy-orton

It turns out that Randy Orton suffered his shoulder injury prior to the Over the Limit pay per view.

Randy Orton Injured Prior to PPV

Wrestlers are a lot like professional athletes in that they try to work through the pain.

While the world realized on Sunday night at the Over the Limit pay per view that Randy Orton was injured, the truth of the matter is that he was injured going into the show.

Over the weekend, WWE held a house show in Cincinnati, Ohio. Randy Orton teamed with John Cena against Sheamus and Batista. During the match, Randy Orton kept checking up on his right arm and shoulder. Despite being in pain, he continued to work through the match instead of allowing John Cena to carry the load.

With his match being one of the most anticipated ones, Randy Orton made the decision to work the match against Edge on Sunday night. The injury became worse during the match, and now Randy Orton is expected to miss some time from the road.

WWE Champions
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Tyson-kidd

After the Over the Limit pay per view, here's all the reigning champions and where they're going next.

WWE Champions

The following are the champions from Raw.

  • WWE Heavyweight Champion: John Cena
He comes off looking especially strong after defeating Batista. WWE is pushing him towards a title feud with Sheamus next. With contenders being slim, WWE might have to stretch out that program for 2-3 months.
  • United States Heavyweight Champion: Bret Hart
Bret Hart didn't have a match at Over the Limit, which isn't surprising at all. WWE needs to remove this belt from him as soon as possible. Hopefully, on Raw tonight. Get the belt back on Miz and push him towards a feud with Bryan Danielson.
  • Unified Tag Team Champions: Tyson Kidd & David Hart Smith
Tyson Kidd & David Hart Smith got the surprising win at the PPV. That's a good thing because Chris Jericho & Miz both need to move on to single programs. With Carlito now gone, the only other tag team left on the brand is William Regal & Vladimir Kozlov. They should be next.
  • Divas Champion: Eve
A clean win over Maryse was a nice boost for Eve. The audience still has not connected with her yet, so feeding her another opponent would be the wise move. Natalya is overdue for a title program.

The following are the champions from Smackdown.

  • World Heavyweight Champion: Jack Swagger
His match against the Big Show was designed to get him more heel heat. Having the match end in a DQ also means that we'll be seeing Big Show getting another shot in a stipulation match next month.
  • Intercontinental Champion: Kofi Kingston
Kind of surprising that they took the belt off of Drew McIntyre. This could just be a gimmick to get more heel heat for the former champion. The writers can script things to where he cheats to get the belt back on Smackdown this week. The program between these two needs to continue.
  • Women's Champion: Layla
There's only room for one women's match on a PPV, so Layla took a seat. Her storyline with Michelle McCool is both annoying and intriguing at the same time. One of the good things about it is that it allows them to feud with anyone.

Mystery Attackers on Raw
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Uso-twins

Just exactly who were the mysterious trio that attacked the Hart Dynasty on Raw? Here's a hint. They're second generation stars.

Mystery Attackers on Raw

On Raw this week, Tyson Kidd & David Hart Smith battled William Regal & Vladimir Kozlov. The champions came out victorious. Things seemed routine until afterwards.

As the trio celebrated in the ring, three mystery attackers stormed the ring and took out all three members of the Hart Dynasty.

Their identities have been revealed.

  • Jimmy Uso - Son of Rikishi. Current FCW tag champion.
  • Jules Uso - Son of Rikishi. Current FCW tag champion.
  • Sarona Snuka - Daughter of Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka".
The decision to bring them up was made shortly after Carlito was released from the company. Original plans had called for Carlito & Primo Colon to be the primary heel contenders to the Hart Dynasty. However, when the company realized they needed another tag team, they turned to their developmental territory.

Bobby Lashley's New Business
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Bobby-lashley

Aside from pursuing a career in MMA, former WWE and TNA star Bobby Lashley has decided to open up a brand new business as well.

Bobby Lashley's New Business

Bobby Lashley isn't just satisfied with a 5-0 record in MMA.

He wants to build an empire.

The former ECW Heavyweight Champion has established a management company with Judith Sussman. The company is called Lashley Management Group and is based out of Aurora, Colorado.

Their goal is to recruit and represent new MMA fighters. Lashley Management Group has successfully signed UFC fighter Alessio Sakara. The company also represents upstart fighters like Ryan Martinez, Willie Parks, and Jason Randleman. Steve Granieri and Lorenzo Borgomeo are both on the roster as well.

Bobby Lashley isn't just the president. He's also a member. The 6'3", 250 pound fighter is signed to his own label as well.

Mr Anderson Turns Babyface
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Ken-anderson

Eric Bischoff reveals why he made the last minute decision to turn Mr Anderson into a babyface.

Mr Anderson Turns Babyface

Everyone has always known that Mr Anderson could talk.

He's been impressing people since his days as a WWE developmental wrestler. As Mr Kennedy, he was connecting with the WWE audience.

It wasn't until he was in TNA, though, that Mr Anderson decided to turn it up a notch.

The Wisconsin native has been given a lot more creative freedom with his promos. With that, he's been able to connect with the audience on an entirely different level. He crossed over into territory that so few have done. He was a heel that ended up being cheered by the audience.

Eric Bischoff took notice of the crowd reaction that Mr Anderson has been receiving over the last few weeks. He just couldn't resist the urge to pull the trigger on a babyface turn. Now, he wants to see just how far up the ladder Mr Anderson can get since the audience is so strongly behind him.

There are critics, though. Many felt that the momentum that Mr Anderson was gaining as a heel would lead him into a main event title program in the coming months. Talks of a feud between Rob Van Dam and Mr Anderson did take place.

Unless Rob Van Dam turns heel, we're not going to see that anytime soon.

R Truth Wins US Title
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 R-truth

R Truth captured the US title last night after beating the Miz. There's a big reason behind that decision.

R Truth Wins US Title

As expected, Bret "the Hitman" Hart dropped the United States Heavyweight Championship on Raw last night. He felt the need to do that because of his promotion to general manager of Raw.

That was expected.

What wasn''t expected, though, was R Truth capturing his first major singles title in WWE. When he was booked in a match against the Miz, the popular consensus was that the former reality TV star would regain the title that he had lost a week ago.

Vince McMahon and company pulled off quite a pleasant surprise.

R Truth is the new US champion, and he's in line for a strong push.

There's more than meets the eye, though.

WWE recently made the decision to push both R Truth and Kofi Kingston at the same time; Kingston recently captured the Intercontinental Championship. The reason why these two were chosen is because management really wants to capture more of the African American audience. They're hoping that these two guys can help bring in more viewers.

The company has been searching for an African American star for quite some time now. Vince McMahon felt that he had found his superstar in Bobby Lashley. However, the former ECW Heavyweight Champion opted to leave the company and pursue a career in MMA instead.

If R Truth and Kofi Kingston are unable to satisfy that need, then they may be relegated to the midcard scene forever.

Shad Gaspard's Other Job
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Mark-copani

Shad Gaspard has another job outside of WWE, and it involves the man formerly known as Muhammad Hassan.

Shad Gaspard's Other Job

On most nights, when Shad Gaspard clocks into his job, it involves putting on trunks and stepping into a four sided ring.

When he's not at that job, he's busy being a comic writer.

Shad Gaspard and Mark Copani (formerly known as Muhammad Hassan in WWE) have signed a Blackline Comics. The two are going to produce a brand new comic called "Assassin & Son: Path of Vengeance".

Things are currently in the developmental stage right now, but it is expected to move quickly. The comic will also be released digitally as well.

Batista to MMA
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Batista

There's rumors and rumblings about Batista possibly making the switch to MMA instead of returning to WWE.

Batista to MMA

In the regular world, changing careers when you're 41 isn't all that big of a deal.

However, in the world of sports entertainment and mixed martial arts, it's a very big deal.

Former WWE Heavyweight Champion Batista is thinking about following in the footsteps of Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar. He wants to make the transition from being a professional wrestler to being an MMA guy.

Jim Ross recently posted the rumor through his personal blog. He stated that nothing is official, but Batista is veering in that direction. He also reiterated that the Washington DC native has been doing MMA training for quite some time now.

As far as his contract status is concerned, Batista is currently at a standstill with WWE. Both sides are just going to allow the contract to expire and continue talks then. Batista will be kept off of television, but he will continue to fulfill his house show obligations.

Batista is also expected to continue his pursuit of an acting career as well.

Dana White Discusses Wrestling
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Dana-white

During a recent interview, Dana White discusses his relationship with WWE, TNA, and Shane McMahon.

Dana White Discusses Wrestling

Dana White does not hate professional wrestling.

During a recent interview with the Miami Herald, the president of UFC was asked about professional wrestling. The opinions that he shared were much different than what most wrestling fans would expect.

Dana White stated that his relationship with TNA is great. He praises the company for what they're doing on Spike TV.

The 40 year old Connecticut native also has a good relationship with WWE and Vince McMahon. He has a lot of respect for the WWE Chairman and CEO. He also stated that he would not be shocked if Shane McMahon got into the world of MMA because he's such a big fan.

Despite the positive relationships that he has with the wrestling business, Dana White clearly states, though, that he's not interested in doing business.

Bryan Danielson Breaks Away
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Bryan-danielson

Bryan Danielson has fulfilled his role as the breakout star of WWE NXT.

Bryan Danielson Breaks Away

Bryant Danielson is the chosen one.

When it was first announced that Bryan Danielson (then known as Daniel Bryan) was going to participate in the inaugural season of WWE NXT, there were a lot of moans and groans from the internet wrestling community. Many felt that it was a waste of his talent to force him to go through the competition. Others felt that it was disrespectful that the Miz was assigned as his mentor.

Things got worse whenever Bryan Danielson was booked to look feeble throughout the weeks.

By the time he was actually eliminated on television, wrestling fans had already given up hope that WWE could ever use him properly.

Well, the internet wrestling community was given a pleasant surprise.

WWE went ahead and pushed Bryan Danielson as the centerpiece of the show. By far, he is the most entertaining thing about WWE NXT; sometimes, he's the only entertaining thing about that show. None of the remaining contestants have garnered as much attention from the audience as Bryan Danielson has.

His feud with Michael Cole was well received. They had a tremendous segment on this week's episode where security had to break the two apart. Over the last few weeks, the commentator has been bashing Bryan Danielson relentlessly. It was a nice ploy by WWE to gain sympathy from the audience.

Bryan Danielson's feud with the Miz has also been well built up. With everything that has transpired between the two, wrestling fans are looking forward to seeing the rivalry be moved over to the Raw brand. Since Miz is one of the most hated characters around, the audience is sure to rally behind the underdog. The program is so hot that it doesn't even need the US title to be involved.

When Bryan Danielson came into the company, the big complaint about him was that he lacked the character to get over with WWE audiences. Now that his character and back story has been developed, his wrestling skills, which ranks among the best in the world, will get a chance to impress.

Bobby Lashley Injured
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Bobby-lashley

Bobby Lashley has suffered a serious injury and will not be able to compete at the next Strikeforce show.

Bobby Lashley Removed

Bobby Lashley's MMA career has hit a speed bump.

Earlier today, Strikeforce released an official statement regarding Bobby Lashley. His match at the June 16, 2010 event in Los Angeles has been officially been removed from the show because he suffered a knee injury during training. He was originally scheduled to face Ron Sparks, who may still be given a match on the show.

At 33 years of age, Bobby Lashley is currently holding a 5-0 record in MMA.

Watch Over the Limit
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Evan-bourne

We rank the wrestlers that watched Over the Limit instead of working the pay per view.

Watch Over the Limit

In sports, every player wants to make it to the playoffs. Competing for the top spot is much more enjoyable than watching the games on TV.

Same thing with professional wrestling.

The difference, though, is that instead of having playoff games, these guys are fighting for a spot on the pay per view. Aside from the lucrative pay per view bonuses that are paid out, being on a big show is also a sign to the wrestlers that management is serious about pushing them.

So, let's take a look at all of the guys that watched Over the Limit and see where they stand.

  1. Undertaker: He basically picks and chooses when he works. He'll be back on PPV soon.
  2. Sheamus: He wasn't on the Over the Limit card, but that was by design. Don't expect him to miss too many PPVs.
  3. Drew McIntyre: Management is losing a little bit of faith in him. Now is the time to prove to them that he can be a full time PPV performer.
  4. Luke Gallows: His involvement with CM Punk could possibly mean a PPV tag team match soon.
  5. Matt Hardy: His program with Drew McIntyre is what's going to get him another PPV bonus check.
  6. Christian: It's a shame that he's not a regular. He should always be booked on a PPV.
  7. Kane: He was involved in the last PPV. If he picks up more momentum, he could return to being a regular soon.
  8. Mark Henry: He picked up some momentum when he got involved with Batista on Raw. However, he simply was just a pawn.
  9. MVP: Talent is unquestioned. Management might turn to him for the occcasional PPV match. Doing very little right now, though.
  10. Evan Bourne: The high flying superstar has been getting consistent air time thanks to his storyline with Gail Kim. However, that won't be enough to get him the next pay per view.
  11. Zack Ryder: He needs his program with Evan Bourne to do well. A mixed tag team match is possible for a future PPV.
  12. Cody Rhodes: It's going to be a while before we see him on a PPV again. He needs to get his new gimmick over.
  13. William Regal & Vladimir Kozlov: With management bringing up a new tag team, it doesn't look likely that they'll get on a PPV anytime soon.
  14. Santino Marella: His value to the company is as a comedic character on Raw. He's not a PPV draw.
  15. John Morrison: He has slipped horribly. Some use the injury as an excuse, but he was being used in a random 6 man tag team match with other scrubs prior to that.
  16. JTG & Shad Gaspard: Since their feud is still new, they still have a chance at getting another PPV match.
  17. Dolph Ziggler: For a guy that fans peg as a future world champion, he sure does have a lot of problems getting PPV work.
  18. Goldust: He's not really doing anything right now. Best chance at getting on a PPV is if there's a gimmick match that involves a lot of wrestlers.
  19. Finlay: He's just content with doing his job.
  20. Chavo Guerrero: He's only good for small time stuff on TV now.
  21. Yoshi Tatsu: As much as the company likes his work ethics, they simply do not see him as a PPV draw. He's not doing much now.
  22. Great Khali: His days of being a regular on PPVs are long gone.
  23. Caylen Croft & Trent Barreta: Until they can get a regular program on TV, don't hold your breath about them getting on a PPV.
  24. Tyler Reks & Vance Archer: With the tag team division being so weak, they need to focus on proving to management that they deserve a shot.
  25. Chris Masters: He's just happy to be collecting a WWE paycheck at this point.
  26. Primo Colon: His chances of getting on a PPV has dropped considerably now that his brother has been released.
Kaval Interview
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Kaval

An interview with former TNA X Division Champion and current WWE developmental wrestler, Kaval. The first ever ROH world champion also explains his new name.

Kaval Interview

One of the most hyped up developmental wrestler in WWE right now is a man by the name of Kaval.

Some of you might not be familiar with the name, but you more than likely have seen his work. He has wrestled under the name of Senshi and Low Ki. He's worked in Japan, TNA, and was the very first ever ROH champion.

After his long journey, he now finds himself down in Florida Championship Wrestling, honing his skills in hopes of being called up to WWE.

During a recent interview with the Miami Herald, he revealed quite a few things.

"The experience in FCW has been great. As for me, my beginning, being from the New York area, starting in LIWF, advancing through the ECWA and moving onto doing a lot of things on the indies, going to Japan and TNA, the road has been long for me, but I get here [FCW), and it's another challenge.

That to me is a very important thing for any kind of professional. You need to keep challenging yourself to make sure your skills are shark, and at the same time, you're taking on a whole new skill set because every company is different, has different rules and is run by different people.

What they see in the ring is me. While wrestling under the Low Ki name, the Low Ki name is an extension of me. I'm not the attention grabber by coming into a room and making the loudest noise. I've subtle. I'm very quiet, but it's a whole different story when the bell rings.

I gain my attention in another way. I gain my respect the traditional way by earning it.

I think people misunderstand sometimes. They think that's a character, when in reality it isn't. It's a real part of who I am, and it really is me in the ring as a disciplined fighter.

The next goal for me is to challenge for the FCW championship. I like to do things in stages and earn my way from the ground up -- similar to a martial artist who begins as a white belt and works his way all the way up to black belt and eventually a grand master. I see myself as the ever-growing student of the game.

I've been introduced to FCW. I want to conquer it as best I can, and then from that stage, move onto the next bigger stage, one of the brands in WWE."

Kaval explained his new name.

"I had the spelling of the name differently, which was from the Philippian language Tagalog. It was spelled K-a-W-a-l, but in speaking with management, they said the name itself would probably be a little more difficult for the casual fan to pronounce.
So we came up with pronouncing it as a `v', knowing that in some European languages the `w' is actually a double v, and that's why it's pronounced with a `v'.

So we were playing around with the idea, and the Kaval name came to me used with a `v' instead of a `w'. The name meant soldier.

Me in the ring, I'm a warrior. I'm a soldier. I really go in there and really try to give the people their money's worth by giving them a hard fought battle."

Kaval also talks about the best wrestler he's worked against in FCW.

"NXT superstar Daniel Bryan. We had history previous to this company.

In every field of work, there is always a contrast to who you are. That contrast for me happens to be Daniel Bryan. Anytime we've stepped into the ring, I've felt he's always brought the best out of me, and I feel like I've done a pretty good job bringing the best out of him. Because of challenges like that, it makes us grow as people and as competitors. "

Ric Flair: I will never retire
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Ric-flair

During a recent interview, Ric Flair boldly said that he will never retire again.

Ric Flair: I Will Never Retire

Even the smartest men in the world make mistakes. Only the dumb ones repeat that mistake.

During a recent interview with Digital Spy, Ric Flair was asked about retirement. It's a bit of a touchy subject for the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion because he feels that WWE forced him to do it. The following is what he had to say about retirement.

"I don't even think like that. I have already had one retirement. I'll never retire again. I'll just walk away. Or fall off the top rope and turn to ash or dust! I'll just crumble and they will sweep me into a waste basket and I'll be gone!"

Ric Flair was also asked about what he misses about WWE.

"I have friends I miss but I have made new friends here. I don't dwell on the past ever. I'll always have those guys for friends and we'll always respect each other, but it's like anything else, when you go home you go home. I don't watch myself on TV. I go home and relax and enjoy my wife, my kids, and I have some grandchildren I love playing with. I'm in a good place and I do what I love doing."

The Nature Boy is currently doing a series of interview to promote the upcoming TNA tour in England.

New York Times Trashes Linda McMahon
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Linda-mcmahon

The New York Times, one of the biggest newspapers in the country, brutally trashes Linda McMahon and WWE.

New York Times Trashes Linda McMahon

There are people out there that like to say that there is no such thing as bad publicity. Well, the New York Times' latest article on Linda McMahon sure does make it hard to find something positive.

In an article discussing Linda McMahon's run at a spot in the Senate, the newspaper basically trashes everything about her and how her family has made their fortune. The piece was written by Gail Collins, who obviously did a lot of research on WWE.

"A political novice who made her fortune building up an entertainment business that specialized in blood, seminaked women and scripted subplots featuring rape, adultery and familial violence. In which the candidate, her husband and children played themselves. Also, the family yacht is named Sexy Bitch."

TNA Signs Reid Flair
Hailey's Newsies - Issue 86 - May 29th 2010 Reid-flair

TNA has decided to add some more flair to their roster by signing Reid Flair, the youngest son of the legendary Ric Flair.

TNA Signs Reid Flair

The second generation hype isn't just something that is happening in WWE.

TNA is doing it as well.

According to Ric Flair himself, the company has signed his son to a contract. The 22 year worked two matches for WCW years ago.

While his appeal is in his name, Reid Flair has been trained by some of the best in the business. Aside from being trained by the Nature Boy, the North Carolina native has also spent time learning under the legendary Harley Race and George South, the man who Ricky Steamboat handpicked to train his own son.

There is some concerns with signing Reid Flair. He's had a couple of brushes with the law over the last couple of years. In fact, he's still facing felony charges after police officers found him with some black tar heroin.

No word yet on when he will start working with TNA.
