Layla- A step in the right direction? Empty
PostSubject: Layla- A step in the right direction?   Layla- A step in the right direction? EmptyWed 01 Sep 2010, 6:40 am

As Layla is the official womens champion, it would look rather stupid for Michelle to be defending her championship for her, especially how on WWE.com they show a graphic of Layla with the title, not McCool.

At Night of Champions, out of the three divas possibly unifying the championships, I feel Layla is the best choice to do so. Why?

This may come as a shock to you, and it would've came as a shock to me, however my views on Layla have changed dramatically since the congregation of Laycool. Layla is rather underrated in the ring. She went from a terrible terrible wrestler, to someone I enjoy watching. Sure, she does look choreographed...But go watch early Trish matches, and even her later ones as a face. The opponent basically bent over way before Trish went for the stratusfaction. Anyway, enough of Trish, this is about Layla. I feel she has came a long way, and since winning the womens championship, has stepped up her game.

Why not Melina unify the titles? Or why not McCool? Those are valid questions, as they are the "top dogs" so to speak at the moment in the WWE. Surely, having one of them unify the titles would benefit the division, and bring it to the next level? In my view, no...It wouldn't. Neither diva can offer what Layla can to the unified title scene. And that is, young blood.

Layla is still fresh, and hasn't been pushed down our throats constantly like the said two. If Layla defeated Melina cleanly and unified the two championships, it would create a whole new star in Layla. Layla is already getting there, but she just needs that extra "push" so to speak.

What would this bring? A lot damn more than Melina or McCool winning, thats for sure. A fallout storyline could be created between Layla and McCool, with Michelle finally realizing she isn't the champion, and the title is all Layla's, and "unified". A fued could erupt between those two, turning Layla into the underdog babyface. I feel she'd get over pretty fast, due to the aggressive heel in Michelle, and the prestige Laycool has created in themselves and their name.

So think about it? Give Layla the failed push of Candice, and create a star. Its really that simple. Build Layla as a credible threat to the likes of Michelle, Melina, etc. A change in the division like this is necessary for it to grow, rather than have Melina and Michelle hog the spotlight till they retire.

Well to put this Short, Same reason why i'm not a fan of Trish, is the same reason why i'm not a fan of Layla......Layla just less because of her, you know what's during her matches.......don't worry LL will soon say it and say

"I'd rather she do that, then letting it get fucked up"

as much as i'd love for Layla to unify the belts i think it'll be Melina just because she's only got the title back. they clearly put it on her so she could be the one to unify the belts

It sounds like a good idea. Problem is with the new blood theory is we've seen people get that underdog push that you mentioned and disappear a little while later because they haven't lived up to expectations by WWE management standards.

In recent history, Candice is once that stands out. They became injury prone. She gained weight and that's a no-no for a WWE Diva. Plus, her in-ring performance which already was horrible became worse.

Eve is someone else to think of. Before she won the Divas championship the rumored plans were to build the division around her. She was a very lame champion and you see how fast they refrained from those plans. lmao

Layla isn't much better than either Candice or Eve, but she has more persona. Even if she does unify the belts, I believe the purpose of it would be for the same reason they made Jericho the first unified WWE champion back in 2001: Going into Vengeance that night many suspected that either Austin or Rock would win. So, having Jericho win added a little more to the ppv because folks were waiting FOREVER for him to get the WWE title (not the WWF-WCW championship) - plus, the overall shock value. As good as he was, WWE still had to give The Rock, HHH, Taker their shine. It took forever before he'd win another world title.

Back to Layla! Her winning would only be a transitional period before the familiar names are taking turns with the belt. I don't think she'll ever be a top tier face of the division.

That would be AMAZING! Kind of like how Chris Jericho defeated both The Rock and Stone Cold back in 2001, omg Layla now you got me all excited!!!

I actually agree completely with the OP. Although Layla wouldn't be my first choice, I do think the first ever unified champion should go to someone quite fresh who the WWE can invest in.

I know they failed with Candice and Eve (although I think she's shown a lot of natural ability) but Layla has the personality that those two didn't; Maryse isn't exactly a great wrestler but I don't think most people really care because she has so much character. Layla has the character, plus I think she's come a long way in the ring and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down.

LayCool aren't going to last forever and since Michelle McCool is the first diva to hold both titles, it'd be a good move to let Layla win and get her over as one of the top heels.

Although I suppose it'd be a nice reward for Melina to beomce the first unified champion as she's done a lot for the division, but I'd much rather see Layla kickstart the beginning of a new era in the diva divison, especially with NXT and new upcoming divas.
