Today’s History Lesson—September 18th

9/18/1956—what is now known as the WWE Women’s Championship, is created, originally known as the NWA World Women’s Championship. The Fabulous Moolah defeats Judy Grable, in a tournament final, to become the inaugural champion. Officially, Moolah held the title for 27 years, as recognized by the WWE.

9/18/1986—The Honky Tonk Man makes his debut in the WWF.

9/18/1994—highlights from 1994 WCW “Fall Brawl”
-Johnny B. Badd defeats Lord Steven Regal, to win the World Television Championship.
-After suffering a career-ending back injury, Ricky Steamboat forfeits the United States Championship to Steve Austin.
-Jim Duggan defeats Steve Austin, to win the United States Championship (match only lasted 35 seconds).
-War Games Match: Brian Knobbs / Jerry Sags / Dusty Rhodes / Dustin Rhodes defeat Terry Funk / Arn Anderson / Bunkhouse Buck / Colonel Robert Parker.

9/18/2000—Rey Misterio Jr. and Juventud Guerrara are forced to vacate the WCW World Tag Team Championship, after Disco Inferno loses a match to WCW Commisioner Ernest Miller. Miller had a stipulation, that if he won, he could strip Misterio and Guerrara, of their titles.

9/18/2003—in a 60-minute Iron Man match, Brock Lesnar defeats Kurt Angle, to become the new WWE Champion.

9/18/2005—highlights from 2005 WWE “Unforgiven”
-Ric Flair defeats Carlito, to win the Intercontinental Championship.
-Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch defeat Rosey and The Hurricane, to win the World Tag Team Championship.
-Matt Hardy defeats Edge (Steel Cage match).
-Kurt Angle defeats John Cena, by DQ. Cena retains the WWE Championship.

9/18/2006—one night after winning the WWE Women’s Championship, Trish Stratus announces her retirement, and vacates the title.
