Today’s History Lesson—October 4th

10/4/1975—Johnny Valentine vacates the NWA United States Championship, after suffering a career-ending injury, in a plane crash.

10/4/1981—Sgt. Slaughter defeats Ricky Steamboat, to win the vacant NWA United States Championship.

10/4/1999—Lenny Lane is stripped of the WCW Cruiserweight Championship, after Turner Broadcasting did not approve of Lane’s homosexual gimmick. Psychosis is awarded the Crusierweight Championship. The announcers on Monday Nitro told the TV audience that Psychosis had won the title over Lane in a house show. But the house show match never occurred. Later on Nitro, Psychosis loses the title, to Disco Inferno.

10/4/2007—TNA iMPACT! expands to a two-hour program, on Spike TV.

10/4/2009—highlights from the first WWE “Hell in a Cell” pay-per-view
-Triple H and Shawn Michaels defeat Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase (Tag Team Hell in a Cell match)
-Kofi Kingston defeats Jack Swagger and The Miz, to retain the United States Championship (triple threat match).
-John Morrison defeats Dolph Ziggler, to retain the Intercontinental Championship.
-Randy Orton defeats John Cena, to win the WWE Championship (Hell in a Cell match).
-Undertaker defeats CM Punk, to win the World Heavyweight Championship (Hell in a Cell match).
