McMahon Gives 'Strong Consideration' to 2012 Senate Bid! ?controllerName=image&action=get&id=1036848&width=628&height=471
Former senate candidate Linda McMahon attends Governor Dannel P. Malloy's budget address to a joint session of the General Assembly in Hartford on Wednesday, February 16, 2011.

Linda McMahon didn't get rich in wrestling by revealing too much of the plot too soon.

The former WWE chief executive, who dropped $50 million of her personal fortune on an unsuccessful bid for Senate in 2010, is taking a similar approach with her political ambitions.

McMahon, 62, gauged her interest level as high in taking another stab at the upper chamber in 2012 in a statement provided to Hearst Connecticut Newspapers by her Hartford publicist Monday.

"It is still a very strong consideration," McMahon said.

Outgoing state GOP Chairman Christopher Healy predicted that McMahon, who is from Greenwich and is married to WWE showman Vince McMahon, will declare her intentions in the next month.

The longer a prospective candidate waits to get into the field, Healy said it could be harder to harness the momentum going into mid-summer and then fall.

"I just think it's a practical maneuver, if she's going to do it," Healy said.

Healy pointed out that McMahon was in attendance at the Prescott Bush dinner in April, the state GOP's signature event and largest fundraiser.

The party chairman since 2007, who is not seeking re-election, was reluctant to speculate whether McMahon will take the plunge again, however.

"I'm not going to spoil the good or bad news," Healy said.

In the 2010 Senate race, McMahon came up 11 points short against longtime Democratic state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal in a bitter contest that McMahon's foes turned into a referendum on the professional wrestling industry.

McMahon, who polled weakly among female voters, resigned from her position as chief executive of Stamford-based WWE and from its corporate board in September 2009 for her first public office run.

She isn't the only Greenwich Republican whose name has been bandied about for Senate in 2012.

L. Scott Frantz, 50, who is in his second term as a state senator representing Greenwich and parts of Stamford and New Canaan, isn't closing the door.

"I don't think anybody's ruling anything out because things happen so quickly in this very dynamic business of public service," Frantz said by phone Monday from Hartford.

Frantz isn't ruling anything in either, saying he has "no plans" to seek higher office.

A prolific GOP fundraiser and venture capitalist who hosted George W. Bush at his Riverside home when he was president and White House hopeful Mitt Romney this past weekend, Frantz has been active in state affairs, serving as board chairman of both Bradley International Airport near Hartford and the Connecticut Development Authority.

A number of Democrats have already thrown their hats into the ring, including U.S. Rep. Christopher Murphy, D-Conn., former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz and state Rep. William Tong, D-Stamford.
