TNA World Hvt. champion Kurt Angle was above the legal limit for blood alcohol content when he was arrested Sunday morning, according to a police report.
Angle's side of the story put out through TMZ earlier this week claimed Angle had a 0.06 blood alcohol level, which turned out to be his second test at a Virginia police station following the arrest. The first test showed up as 0.091 BAC, which is above the legal limit.
Following his arrest, Angle's court hearing is set for October 4 in Warren County General District Court, according to the Northern Virginia Daily newspaper.
More details on the arrest were reported by the newspaper. According to state trooper C.R. Scally, Angle was observed "weaving and driving down the center line" for about half-a-mile.
"I made contact with the driver and detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage," Scally wrote in the police report. "I asked Mr. Angle, whom I identified by his Pa. drivers license, how much he had to drink and he replied he had three beers." Scally added, "Mr. Angle's eyes were bloodshot and glassy."
Angle was asked to perform six field sobriety tests, which the police report indicates Angle failed. Angle took a preliminary test at the scene of the arrest, which yielded a BAC above the limit. Angle was arrested at 2:06 a.m. Sunday morning, taken to the Front Royal police headquarters, and took a second test, where he scored 0.06, before he was released on $2,000 bond.
Angle was officially charged with driving while intoxicated as a first-time offender, which is a class 1 misdemeanor in the state of Virginia. As one of the conditions of his bail, Angle was permitted to leave Virginia and return home to Pennsylvania until the hearing.
Angle subsequently flew to Los Angeles this week for the movie screening of "Warrior." Angle is also scheduled for TNA dates in Orlando and on the road prior to his hearing on October 4.
The news report is currently one of the top stories on the Northern Virginia Daily's homepage. The headline reads: "Wrestler's initial BAC result was 0.091 percent" and includes a photo of Angle. | |
