| Subject: 10/27 Impact Quarter-Hour Ratings Feat. Storm's 1st Show as TNA Champ Sun 30 Oct 2011, 4:00 am | |

TNA Impact Wrestling on Thursday, October 27 scored a 1.14 rating off a first hour 1.21 rating and second hour 1.07 rating.
The quarter-hour ratings steadily dropped off throughout the show after starting with a 1.30 rating in the first quarter-hour. Q1 followed a 1.29 rating in the eighth quarter-hour of last week's second-highest-rated episode of the year.
As the World Series Game 6 progressed, Impact dropped clear down to a 1.01 rating in the seventh quarter-hour prior to a slight rebound in the final quarter-hour with a 1.06 rating.
Other than last week's show, the first hour rating (1.21) was the highest first hour rating since August. The second hour rating (1.07) was only slightly higher than the poorly-rated October 6 and 13 episodes prior to Bound for Glory.
Each of the first hour quarter-hour ratings were above the corresponding 2011 averages. Each of the second hour quarter-hour ratings were below the corresponding 2011 averages.
First Hour Break Down
Q1: Impact opened with a 1.30 rating (compared to a 1.38 rating last week) for James Storm's opening talking segment and appearances by Fortune, Samoa Joe, and Sting setting the stage for the main event. (up 9.7% vs. 2011-Q1 average)
Q2: Impact dropped one-tenth of a rating to a 1.20 rating for Christopher Daniels vs. Rob Van Dam and one commercial break. (up 3.2% vs. 2011-Q2 average)
Q3: Impact maintained the same 1.20 rating for a Knockouts talking segment and Gail Kim vs. Tara in Gail's TNA in-ring return. There was also one-half of a commercial. (up 2.7% vs. 2011-Q3 average)
Q4: Impact slipped to a 1.14 rating for Eric Young vs. Robbie E. for the TV Title, backstage segments, and one-and-a-half commercial breaks. (up 1.2% vs. 2011 Q4-average)
Second Hour Break Down
Q5: Impact was flat compared to Q4 with a 1.15 rating featuring the Bischoffs in the ring for a father-son chat, plus one commercial break. On the year, Impact has averaged an increase of one-tenth of a rating from Q4 to Q5.
This segment was up against the start of MTV's "Beavis and Butthead" return at 10:00 p.m. EST, which likely joined the World Series Game 6 in pushing down Impact's audience level for the remainder of the second hour. (down 7.0% vs. 2011-Q5 average)
Q6: Impact dropped one-tenth of a ratings point to a 1.05 for Flair and Bischoff backstage, video packages, the first-half of Jeff Hardy's in-ring return against Bully Ray, and one commercial. (down 9.9% vs. 2011-Q6 average)
Q7: Impact dropped to a show-low 1.01 rating for the second-half of Hardy's in-ring return, a post-match interview, one full commercial, and ring introductions for the Roode vs. Joe main event. (down 12.0% vs. 2011-Q7 average)
Q8: Impact increased slightly to a 1.06 rating for the Roode vs. Joe main event, one commercial break, and the show-concluding angle with the Bischoffs and Flair in the ring again. (down 11.3% vs. 2011-Q8 average)
Caldwell's Analysis: The second hour can almost be thrown out due to the B&B return on MTV and increased drama of World Series Game 6, but TNA getting a 1.0 rating for Hardy's big in-ring return has to be a disappointment when an entire show could have been built around that moment. Looking at the main event segment, the audience has been given zero reason to care about Samoa Joe's character over the past few years and the audience was set up to get excited for Roode as champion coming out of Bound for Glory, so it could be concluded some of the audience stopped caring about Roode when TNA didn't pull the trigger at BFG. ----------------------- http://pwtorch.com/artman2/publish/TNA_News_1/article_54656.shtml
TNA Impact on Thursday, October 27 scored a 1.14 rating, down from a 1.35 rating last week, which was the second-highest rating of the year.
Impact settled back to the yearly average (1.17 rating) up against Game 6 of the World Series, which averaged 21.1 million viewers on broadcast TV.
Impact averaged 1.52 million viewers, down 25 percent from last week's 2.01 million viewers. It followed the pattern of last year's post-Bound for Glory shows when the immediate fall-out averaged 1.90 million viewers and the second week averaged 1.51 million viewers.
Impact scored a 0.81 demographic rating among males 18-49, down 36 percent from a very strong 1.28 rating last week. Also, Impact scored a 0.80 rating among m18-34, down 40 percent from a record 1.34 rating last week. This week's demo ratings were right in-line with the yearly averages.
Recent Ratings Pattern
9/29 - 1.14 overall rating 10/6 - 1.00 rating 10/13 - 1.05 rating 10/20 - 1.35 rating 10/27 - 1.14 rating
5-Week Avg: 1.13 rating 10-Week Avg: 1.12 rating 2011 Avg: 1.17 rating
Caldwell's Analysis: Going up against an epic World Series game (that turned "epic" after Impact concluded) and the return of "Beavis and Butthead" on MTV certainly didn't help Impact, but this follows the pattern of Impact scoring a one-week ratings pop about once per quarter, then settling back to the typical ratings/viewership pattern. ---------------------------- What do you think of this? | |
