TNA house show results November 5, 2011 Toledo, Ohio Report by Fred Vallongo, PWTorch reader
An enthusiastic crowd of 2,000 was in attendance for this event Saturday night in Toledo. Things got underway with...
(1) X Division champion Austin Aries beat Jesse Sorensen to retain the X Division Title. This was a very good match won by Aries rolling through a roll-up by Jesse for the win.
(2) Knockouts champion Velvet Sky beat ODB to retain the KO Title. Earl Hebner was the referee. Velvet won the match with a face-plant. The crowd was really into Velvet.
(3) James Storm beat Magnus with a superkick in under a minute following a beer drinking skit.
(4) Mr. Anderson beat Abyss via DQ. Abyss hit him with a chair to cause the DQ. Anderson brought a youngster into the ring to do the winner announcement afterward.
[Intermission: Don West sold the heck out of the merchandise.]
Ric Flair came out to a huge ovation. He seemed tired, but flirted with the crowd good-naturedly, praised the TNA roster, and left after one of his trademark “whoos."
(5) Rob Van Dam beat Gunner and Scott Steiner in a three-way match. RVD got the biggest pop of the night. This quickly turned into a two-on-one as the two heels from Immortal joined forces against RVD. After a beat down, RVD came back and got the win by pinning Gunner following a frog splash.
(6) Jeff Hardy beat Bully Ray in the main event. Ray engaged in a bit of crowd-baiting, including some gratuitous homophobic slurs. Hardy came out to a big ovation. After absorbing a beating, Hardy came back to get the win with a Swanton bomb to the crowd’s delight!
Hardy then stayed in the ring for photos with fans. Of note, A.J. Styles did not wrestle after injuring his ankle Friday night in Michigan.
Biggest Pops:
1) RVD 2) Jeff Hardy 3) Ric Flair 4) Velvet Sky
Most Heat:
(1) Bubba Ray - no one else was close.
Random Thoughts:
- The Montreal Screwjob was a long time ago. Bret Hart and HBK have moved on, so to see Hebner continue to use it to make a buck comes across pathetic.
- Steiner calling women “bitches,” and Bully Ray using homophobic slurs, just seems not only wrong, but mean-spirited and anachronistic. It's 2011, not 1990.
- Overall, I thought TNA came across very minor league. | |
