Can Lady Gaga Win Album of the Year at 2012 Grammys?

Lady Gaga may already have five Grammy Awards, but her latest release "Born This Way" would be her first to win the coveted Album of the Year. She will likely face off against fellow Grammy darlings Adele, Kanye West, and Tony Bennett in the top race.

"Born This Way" has sold over 8 million copies worldwide to date with more than 1 million sold in the United States in the first week of release. Those numbers could propel Gaga to a third consecutive bid for the top prize at the Grammys. She has been nominated the last two years running for "The Fame" and "The Fame Monster."

The success of singles from this new disc gives her bid an added boost. The title track debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for six weeks. Follow-up singles "Judas," "The Edge of Glory," and "You and I" all made the top ten. However, despite the enormous popularity of the "Born This Way" single, Gaga notoriously opted not to submit it for Record of the Year.

A nomination for Record of the Year is practically a prerequisite for a pop artist to win Album of the Year. The last time someone won without one was when traditional pop vocalist Tony Bennett's "MTV Unplugged" took the 1995 honor. Ironically, Gaga could reap a Record of the Year nod for her collaboration "The Lady Is a Tramp" with Bennett from his "Duets II." That would improve his chances to once again win the prize.

Currently, Gold Derby's Experts, Editors, and Users give Lady Gaga along with Kanye West ("My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy") and Tony Bennett odds of 2/11 to be nominated while Adele ("21") is far out in front at 1/100.

Do you think Gaga could and or should win Album of the Year next year at the Grammys?

Personally, I really think this will come down to Adele and Gaga. I LOVE them both so I'd be happy either way.

I see more like Adele v Tony Bennett and his posse of big names people who are overdue to win Album of the Year.

I've said it before I think that is a REALLY cheap way to win Album of the Year.. And if academy members vote for the Bennett's album solely because so and so lost Album of the Year that one year and this is their chance to redeem themselves because all people who are on an album that wins Album of the Year are considered winners] and NOT because his album truly was better than '21' then I think that is shady as fuck!

So the way I see it 21 is in the first place [but not by much because of the potential shady factor], Bennett could creep in there for a win, and Gaga is third.

I could see Adele or Gaga winning it.
