| I think the bigger snub for actors was Michael Fassbender for Shame.
I had a feeling Gary Oldman would bump Leo off but Fassbender also being bumped off for Demián Bichir was a shock and a sad one.

| Proving that we Oscar forecasters can't always tell which way the wind is blowing, the Academy Awards provided a number of surprises to go along with expected nominees like "The Artist," "Hugo," and "The Descendants." (See complete list of nominees here)
Notable snubs include: Leonardo DiCaprio for "J. Edgar," Michael Fassbender for "Shame," Albert Brooks in "Drive," Tilda Swinton in "We Need to Talk About Kevin," "#The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" in Best Picture#, "The Adventures of Tintin" from Best Animated Feature, and "Project Nim" from Best Documentary Feature.
NOT BEST PICTURE "Bridesmaids" "Drive" "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" "The Ides of March" "The Iron Lady" "J. Edgar" "My Week with Marilyn" "A Separation" "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy"

Edgar" David Fincher, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Bennett Miller, "Moneyball" Steven Spielberg, "War Horse" Tate Taylor, "The Help" Nicolas Winding Refn, "Drive"
NOT BEST ACTOR Leonardo DiCaprio, "J. Edgar" Michael Fassbender, "Shame" Joseph Gordon-Levitt, "50/50" Ryan Gosling, "Drive" Ryan Gosling, "The Ides of March" Woody Harrelson, "Rampart" Thomas Horn, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" Michael Shannon, "Take Shelter"
NOT BEST ACTRESS Kirsten Dunst, "Melancholia" Keira Knightley, "A Dangerous Method" Elizabeth Olsen, "Martha Marcy May Marlene" Emma Stone, "The Help" Tilda Swinton, "We Need to Talk About Kevin" Charlize Theron, "Young Adult"
NOT BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Albert Brooks, "Drive" George Clooney, "The Ides of March" Armie Hammer, "J. Edgar" John Hawkes, "Martha Marcy May Marlene" Ben Kingsley, "Hugo" Viggo Mortensen, "A Dangerous Method" Ezra Miller, "We Need to Talk About Kevin" Patton Oswalt, "Young Adult" Brad Pitt, "The Tree of Life" Alan Rickman, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" Andy Serkis, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes"
NOT BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Sandra Bullock, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" Jessica Chastain, "Take Shelter" Jessica Chastain, "The Tree of Life" Judi Dench, "J. Edgar" Carey Mulligan, "Drive" Carey Mulligan, "Shame" Vanessa Redgrave, "Coriolanus" Shailene Woodley, "The Descendants"
NOT BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY "50/50" "Beginners" "J. Edgar" "Martha Marcy May Marlene" "Rango" "Shame" "Take Shelter" "The Tree of Life" "Win Win" "Young Adult"

Unlike last year, the nine Best Picture nominees were not the most popular across the various branches of the academy.
Four of them -- "Hugo" (11), "The Artist" (10), "War Horse" (6) and "Moneyball" (6) -- lead the pack but then "The Descendants" is tied at five with "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" which did not make it into the top race.
"The Help" and "Midnight in Paris" contend for four apiece.
Coming in with three bids was "The Tree of Life." That ties it with "Albert Nobbs," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."
And "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" was matched for two nominations by "A Separation," "Bridesmaids," "The Iron Lady" and "My Week with Marilyn."
Last year, from "The King's Speech" with an even dozen bids down to "The Kids Are All Right" and "Winter's Bone" with four apiece, the Best Picture nominees amassed 69 nominations in total.
Eight of last year's 10 Best Picture nominees counted at least one acting bid among their totals. "The King's Speech" and "The Fighter" had three apiece while "Inception" was snubbed and the animated feature "Toy Story 3" was ineligible. This year, four of the contenders -- "Hugo," "Midnight in Paris," "The Tree of Life" and "War Horse" -- were snubbed by the acting branch.
Nine of last year's Best Picture contenders reaped screenplay bids; the exception was "Black Swan" which was edged out by "Another Year" for the fifth Original Screenplay slot. This year only five of the nine nominees are in the running. The snubbed screenplays are "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," "The Help," "The Tree of Life" and "War Horse."

| If Harry Potter doesn't win best visual effects after that amazing force field scene, it proves there is nothing right about these nominations/wins.
I would've liked to see an Emma Watson nomination, feel she overshadows a lot of the 'top dog' actors/actresses with her abilities.

| ^ Yeah it should win however I could easily see it losing to Hugo because that film has like 11 nominations so it may get a lot of the technical awards.. | |
