TNA Impact live on Thursday, August 2 scored a 1.01 rating, down one-tenth from a 1.09 rating last week.
Impact averaged 1.40 million viewers, down 13 percent from last week's seasonal high of 1.58 million viewers.
For comparability, Thursday's show was in-between the pre-summer average of 1.49 million viewers and summer average of 1.32 million viewers.
On cable TV Thursday night, Impact ranked #34 in overall viewer, #8 in males 18-34, and #6 in males 18-49. Impact was affected by Olympics coverage on NBC, like all programming, but still squeezed in the Top 10 compared to other male-oriented cable shows.
In the demographic ratings, Impact scored its highest teen male rating since February 2, improving two-tenths of a rating from last week. Otherwise, Impact declined one-tenth to two-tenths of a rating in all key demos compared to last week. The drop-off returned Impact to the typical range during the summer run.
Caldwell's Analysis: It's been a tough summer run for Impact going up against the NBA Finals, then losing viewers temporarily to the DirecTV issues, and now facing the Olympics at the tail-end of the live summer run. It won't get any easier one month from now when the new fall TV season kicks off, but they have at least found their footing creatively to withstand the fall season onslaught.

TNA Impact on Thursday, August 2 officially scored a 1.00 flat rating off a first hour 0.92 rating and second hour 1.09 rating.
Impact continues to be hurt by slow starts in the first hour with viewers still acclimating to the timeslot change. The first quarter-hour scored a show-low 0.87 rating and no first hour quarter-hour topped a 1.00.
Impact jumped to a 1.10 to begin the second hour, then dipped in Q6 and Q7 before concluding with a strong 1.18 rating in Q8 for the James Storm vs. Kurt Angle main event. Q8 nearly matched a 1.19 rating to conclude the July 26 show.
First Hour Break Down
Q1: Impact opened with a 0.87 rating for the first-half of the Austin Aries & Kenny King vs. Bobby Roode & Zema Ion tag match that jump-started the show, plus one commercial.
Q2: Impact increased to a 0.92 rating for the second-half of the tag match, one commercial, and Sting coming out to the ring to address James Storm.
Q3: Impact increased to a first-hour-high 0.96 rating for the second-half of the Sting-Storm confrontation involving Kurt Angle, one commercial, and Bully ray vs. Robbie E.
Q4: Impact dipped to a 0.93 rating for the first-half of the Knockouts #1 contender four-way match, which also contained two commercials dragging down the rating.
Second Hour Break Down
Q5: Impact scored a 1.10 rating - the same as last week's Q5 - for the second-half of the Knockouts match, Sting talking to Brooke Hogan backstage, one commercial, and ODB and Eric Young backstage.
Q6: Impact dipped slightly to a 1.08 rating for Chavo Guerrero's in-ring debut against Kid Kash, one commercial, and Kurt Angle backstage with Wes Brisco.
Q7: Impact dipped to a second-hour-low 0.98 rating for Daniels and Kaz's "baby shower" for Claire, one commercial, Joseph Park backstage with Sting, ring introductions for the main event, and the first two minutes of Angle-Storm in the main event.
Q8: Impact jumped to a show-high 1.18 rating for the Angle-Storm main event, one commercial, and post-match waiting game for the Aces & Eights group, who never showed up. (Second to last week's show for highest-rated Q8 of the live summer run.)
Caldwell's Analysis: This week's result = less Claire storyline, more promotion of top matches, which resulted in a big number for the main event. | |
