The "Open Fight Night" edition on TNA Impact on Thursday, September 20 scored a 1.01 rating, up slightly from a 0.97 rating last week. It was the third consecutive show to round to a 1.0 rating.
Impact averaged 1.340 million viewers, which was up 100,000 viewers from the previous two weeks. Impact was even with the live summer average of 1.344 million viewers.
On cable TV Thursday night, Impact ranked #38 in total viewers, #58 among adults 18-49, #17 among males 18-34, and #18 among males 18-49. The male demo rankings were slightly below the yearly average.
Impact's week-to-week ratings increase can be attributed to regaining younger viewers. Impact's teen males 12-17 rating was up more than one-tenth of a rating and the males 12-34 rating was up one-tenth. Impact was also up one-tenth in males & adults 18-34. Older males were flat with last week.

TNA Impact on Thursday, September 20 officially scored a 1.01 rating off a first hour 0.93 rating and second hour 1.09 rating.
The new first hour continues to drag down Impact's overall rating 17 weeks into the timeslot change. For the third consecutive week, no quarter-hour in the first hour topped a 1.00. This week, the closest was a 0.98 rating in Q2 after a poor start with a 0.86 rating in Q1.
Impact peaked with a 1.11 rating in Q6, which followed a 1.09 rating to start the second hour. Impact then declined slightly in Q7 and finished with a second-hour-low 1.06 rating in Q8 for an unhyped TV main event of Austin Aries vs. Bully Ray.
First Hour Break Down
Q1: Impact opened with a 0.86 rating for Hogan and Shaq backstage, ring intros for the opening tag match of A.J. Styles & Kurt Angle vs. Chavo & Hernandez, the first few minutes of the match, and a mid-match commercial. (down 2.1% vs. live summer Q1 average)
Q2: Impact increased to a first-hour-high 0.98 rating for the second-half of Styles & Angle vs. Chavo & Hernandez, one commercial, and various backstage segments. (up 8.0% vs. live summer Q2 average)
Q3: Impact dipped to a 0.93 rating for Dixie Carter's backstage meeting and this month's Gut Check try-out match. There were also two full commercial breaks. (even with live summer Q3 average)
Q4: Impact increased slightly to a 0.96 rating for James Storm and Bobby Roode teasing a fight and Hogan giving Roode until the other side of the commercial to make a decision, the commercial, and a pre-fight scrap. (up 3.7% vs. live summer Q4 average)
Second Hour Break Down
Q5: Impact took its usual top-of-the-second-hour bump to a 1.09 rating for the Roode-Storm "match," a post-match scrap, Hogan backstage, one commercial, and Austin Aries confronting Jeff Hardy backstage. (up 1.8% vs. live summer Q5 average)
Q6: Impact increased slightly to a show-high 1.11 rating for this week's Knockouts segment of a Tara in-ring promo before intimidating Christy Hemme. This was followed by Hogan backstage, a commercial, Brooke Hogan backstage, and Hogan walking to the ring to confront Aces & Eights. (up 6.8% vs. live summer Q6 average)
Q7: Impact dipped slightly to a 1.09 rating for Hogan's Aces & Eights segment, one commercial, Austin Aries in the ring calling out Bully Ray, and Ray slowly making his way out to the ring for the main event. (up 4.9% vs. live summer Q7 average)
Q8: Impact dipped slightly to a second-hour-low 1.06 rating for the unhyped Aries vs. Ray main event, one commercial, and show-closing Aries-Jeff Hardy mid-ring confrontation. (down 2.5% vs. live summer Q8 average of a 1.09 rating.)
Caldwell's Analysis: Very inefficient use of the TNA World champion this week. Aries did not appear on Impact until 74 minutes into the show, then TNA gave away a PPV match-up of Aries vs. Ray without setting the stage for the match to draw in an audience. | |
