WWE Smackdown on Friday, December 14 leading into the TLC PPV scored a 1.74 rating. The show was down from three straight weeks of 1.81 ratings.
It was the lowest first-run Friday rating in over two months dating back to October 5.
However, Smackdown's average viewership increased to 2.63 million viewers, which was up three percent from Dec. 7 and the most viewers in four weeks.
On cable TV Friday night, Smackdown ranked #5 in overall viewers, #7 among males 18-34, and #4 among males 18-49. Smackdown trailed TNT's "Lord of the Rings" and ESPN's NBA Friday night game among m18-34.
One year ago this week, Smackdown scored a 1.96 rating and averaged 2.88 million viewers, reflecting an 11 percent decline in the rating and 9 percent decline in viewership in 2012. This week's Smackdown was also down 28 percent in m18-49.
Caldwell's Analysis: Smackdown continues to feel skippable and irrelevant during the three-hour Raw era, plus add in the effect of a new hour of television, Main Event, on Wednesday nights. WWE seems to be content with just presenting a dry, basic two-hour show on Friday nights, but they're slowly losing the audience based on declines in the overall rating and key male demos. | |
